ESPN's Football Outsiders red flags the Carolina Panthers WR position

top dawg

Recommended Posts

• Joe AdamsArmanti Edwards and Kealoha Pilares, who have a combined eight catches in six NFL seasons.

The Panthers did nothing to address this position in the draft.

Armanti has 5 catches on 9 targets for 121 yards. BUT NO Joe Adams is a LOCK and Kealoha has a cool name.

Yeah I know it's not even decent but out of those 3 everyone seems to think Adams is a lock.

LT, CB, S will all be spots that a high pick can be justified next year....may not be able to take a WR high. Gross seems to be on his fairwell tour.

Well LT comes close, but none of those override WR at this point.

Who would you replace first, Steve Smith or Jordan Gross?

Scheme and WRs. We throw it downfield alot but the WRs still have to catch it or run well after the catch.

Our YAC wasnt good though, was it?

Smitty especially was at a career low

Seemed to be more a product of a QB who struggles to throw short and supplements the short pass with his legs.....and a downfield pass attack

If both gone tommorrow. Gross

People bash Gross but he is still the best part of our OL IMO. I put him ahead of Kalil bc his job is harder

Everytime I see a reference to ESPN Insider I'm amazed they actually manage to sell that content.

Hopefully the OP hacked the site and got it for free because Insider doesn't have anything you couldn't find on a variety of free sites (starting with the Huddle, for example).

Well, actually it comes free with ESPN's Mag.  For the discounts that they give you on the magazine subscription, it is well worth the price. Some insightful if not just entertaining articles. The Insider is just icing on the cake. Call it what you want, but the piece may have information that we already know, but it used colorful language IMO. Plus, I can get the scoop on all the teams if I so choose (and not just in the NFL).

So we protect Cam but our offense immediately becomes one dimensional and we have ten RB's under contract and half a dozen #3 and #4 WR's and only one solid tight end. Yeah that sounds no bueno to me, sorry.

Protecting Cam is one of the most important things we can do...

Also OL allows Cam to make reicevers better AND allows the comical backfield a chance to produce. The RBs where comically inconsistent last year....and it wasn't a RB talent issue.

So yeah, if Gross walks ....replacing him for me is more important. It can be a FA but that is very important. Right side to date is still below average....can't let the entire OL fall apart

I'm not saying abandon the OL but if we lose our #1 receiver and fail to locate an adequate replacement it's not going to matter how good our OL is if we just have scrub receivers out there incapable of keeping the defense honest for our backs. Remember how our offense has looked in the past without Steve? Let's not kid ourselves.

2009 - won the game after he broke his collar bone the week prior on that TD

2008 - went 2-0 while he was suspended

2004 - Delhomme had the best season of his career while Smith was out

need an OL or the rest IMO doesn't matter. All start up front...both the pass and run

As long as it works for you it's all good. I still buy newspapers from time to time even though I can get all the news on line for free, so I guess it's the same thing.

It really is just more of an amazement thing with me...I find it incredible that ESPN can actually sell the product in this day and age with the amount of free info out there.
