With 8.46 million do we go shopping or sign Hardy?

If this is Hardy's last year on his contract, how about giving him a small boost in pay with a two year contract (this year and next year) for his play last year.  Then if he continues to play well this year, give him the big pay-long term deal next year.

10+sack guy under 24?  Who may actually be better this year than last because of the upgrade at the DT position?  His agent is a fool if he lets him sign a 1 year extension basically.  In my opinion if he looks like he is ready to play in training camp you lock him up before he hits open market.  Or else we are going to have the CJ thing all over again.  Just look in our division the people who need DE help.  No no no...we lock him up if he looks ready to play this year.

This Greg Hardy deal is going to be a chess game, do you extend him now before he has a monster year? Or do you wait till next off-season assuming with the addition of Star, short his production might not be as equal to last season.......tough decision

I defer this to Gettlemen and trust he will make the right decision.

I would like to see Hardy show that kind of production again before I would want to commit to a long term contract with guaranteed money.

I love Krakken but to this point he has been inconsistent and if I were GM o would like to see continued production first.

Just my thoughts

To extend him now long term with only one great year would also be a foolish move for his agent.  His only argument for Hardy is this one year, but we could easily counter that argument as a one year wonder.  I personally would like to reward Hardy for last year.  I do suppose if we did give him a short extension, he would have to trust Gettlemen the next year to give him a big contract.

I also suppose Hardy could just play out this year, and simply hit the open market next year to still get paid. (Unless he is a restricted free agent next year)  Yet he would be seriously underpaid this season.  I think it would be better for both parties to give him a short two year contract to get paid a little better this year, and trust we will do him right next year.

Because his agent would laugh in your face, that's why.

Showing that production 2 years in a row will get him a big pay day in the open market causing us to fork up more money than we would if we just resigned him now... And after next year, he could walk..

Lock him up now... Our core D-Line will be signed through 2016.  Then we will only need worry about signing some new "hog mollies" on the other side of the ball.
