With 8.46 million do we go shopping or sign Hardy?

Same thing could be happening to Kraken that's happening to Beason. Kraken won't have to rotate in at DT anymore, so his sack total might go down this season, since he won't be mis-matched on a slower guard nearly as much. Might need a full season at strictly DE to determine what ballpark the contract will be in.

Beason got his big contract as a middle LB. He hasn't played outside LB since Dan Morgan was the middle LB. Might need a full season outside to determine how to re-structure Beason's deal to reflect what outside LBs are paid.

I think you will see Kraken on passing downs coming from both the DE and DT position.Just because we drafted a couple studs does not mean they will be as effective as the Kraken. My only concern with Hardy is he is crazy as hell.

IMO, the wisest move for the team would be to table talks until early in the season, when it's clear that any cap figure added in a Hardy extension wouldn't take out any rainy day money they might need to sign replacement players for anyone that goes to IR. Blow through too much cap space in the extension now and you'd be stuck with signing younger guys (read: lower min salaries). This would invariably lead to multiple "why are we signing noname when better vet option is available" threads.

Its only a bad thing when you jump on a motorcycle and have wrecks or something like that.I am a Kraken fan but speak to anyone that knows him and you will know what I mean.Having said that, he deserves a big pay day and if he can play his cards right he should get one.I actually think he could surpass CJ this year in sacks.

I am not in favor of signing him until next year but if we did the folks thinking that it would use all our cap space are wrong.  Big contracts no matter how big are always cap friendly in year 1 and 2.  Flacco who got a 6 year 120 million contract will only count 6 million against the cap in year 1.  Hardy could be signed with little cap hit this year.  2 years down the road it would escalate sharply but not right away.  Still I don't think he is irreplaceable and part of his success is this scheme and he knows that as well.

I would let Hardy's agent know to start expecting talks to start during training camp, see what Hardy looks like when he get's in there and go from there.

Dude is like 285 with a six pack. I'd say he's in pretty phenomenal shape for this next season. He is going to destroy people.

however people feel about him as a player, to each their own, but I think if the coaching staff truly believes in Hardy as they have said in the past than the overall reduction in cap hit is more important than just focusing on the first two years...

granted his guaranteed money may not be more than a few million in the difference between this year and waiting until next, but as far as big picture goes, every bit helps with this team's situation.

Rather extend him before the season starts, for a reasonable contract, then wait til next year. He could blow up and get a larger pay day. Then you run the risk of losing him in FA.

Thy guy is a monster and may end up one of the best DEs in the game. I'd rather him remain a Panther.

I didn't really mean physically as much as "hungry".  When players want that big contract we all know what happens....hold outs, not working out as much, playing not to get injured...etc.

Not saying that's how it will go, but you never know.  No one has accused Hardy of being overly bright.

Personally, I try to sign him late camp, early season.  But I have longed for a good D line now for almost a decade.

well we know Getty loves linemen, and DE's in particular.  I have a feeling

we'll try to re-sign him this summer or fall, and try to find a reasonable number.

I've got a feeling our draft and a couple of FA's are gonna really contribute to this

team, so you might see a surprising cut or two of some higher salaried players

before the season.

Lost in all this sign Hardy now debate is the fact that maybe Hardy may not sign this year. He should know that if he balls out this year his salary is going to rise significantly.

Offer him the extension this year and hope he signs it.

unless, at some point, Hardy says he wants an extension this year...
