With 8.46 million do we go shopping or sign Hardy?

you're assumptions are always entertaining.  how you jump from one thing to another without credence.

no one mentioned CJ-esque size contracts or throwing something stupid at him.  However, that's actually my point, regardless of what the market is commanding next year, this year would still benefit the Panthers more.

What the market commands next year doesn't explain why Gettleman needs to feed his ego/pride by signing only "his guys".

Nor does this weird assumption that it takes 6 months to know the talent on your roster, which he reportedly did as SOON as he got the GM job.   You know, being a "pro scout" everyone raves over, as well as being a film junky..

Nor how Osi being a little bitch every other year about his contract says anything about Hardy's versatility, ability to play majority of the snaps, how he took CJ's job from him, and still wouldn't command that much.

And seeing as how he asked for a new contract before his old one ran out means he's willing to play ball to stay in Carolina.  Where is the "something stupid" contract coming from in that argument?

Are you telling me Gettleman doesn't look at the big picture?  That locking up Hardy at some point this year must be done right now, right now?  But not this year because Cam Newton's contract is going to be completely and utterly cap friendly.  What's a few extra million in cap, whether it's 2 mil per year or 5 mil..

or is it just better to be safe than sorry?  sure, everyone will have their opinion..  although, how you come up with yours is worth a fun little discussion.

Just stick to "I want to see what he does this year so I think that's what Gettleman should do."

stupid doesn't begin to explain how you think watching film from a FA is any different than watching film of players on the new team you just signed with...

Why did you re-add stuffs to your post?

If it only takes 6 months to know your talents, why did John Dorsey tried trading away one of the best LT in the NFL the last 5 years in Branden Albert? Why did John Idzik trade away Revis Island who is literally the best CB in the NFL? Why arent those GMs paying those men? Tell me?? Those guys werent drafted by them. Gman is not going to give Hardy a contract just bc Carolina fans are telling him to.

As far as I'm concern, Hardy has two seasons left in Charlotte. He's under contract through this year, and Gman can still "franchise" Hardy in 2014 if he likes him enough. Like I have said multiple times before, Gman has "leverage" over Hardy. Who's stupid enough to not use it? Probably only you.

I've added stuff to posts for years since the internet is all about context.  For instance, why would I ever compare Hardy, who fits perfectly in our system, to a guy who recently had an ACL tear, bitches about his contract every year, and takes up a lot of cap space?  Why would I ever compare Brandon Albert who is completely unhappy with his situation to a player who asked to get a contract extension to stick around...?

context..  who's stupid enough not to use it?  well, as you throw simple jabs that do not display any relevance to the situation, you are.. lol

the only point you've really made that makes any sense to the situation is we do have 2 years to keep him around..  but every year you let him "walk", Hardy gains leverage.  Something else you fail to understand: how leverage works.

With the new big guys in the middle, someone on the line is gonna have to take on the double team. Greg Hardy has improved significantly each year, and unless he's gonna be the guy taking on two blockers, I have no doubt he'll continue to put up big numbers. Sign him now while he's cheaper before he goes out and eats up QBs all season and then demands a huge deal.

Take what ever money is left over from that and put it towards Cam's future deal.

The obvious move is to extend Hardy. It's funny how people quickly forget what a solid front 7 can do for a team.

Mike Rucker, Kris Jenkins, Brenston Buckner, Julius Peppers. It was pick your poison. Mark Fields, Dan Morgan and Will Witherspoon were free to do what they do. With Jake we rode the D (no homo) to the Super Bowl.

Our current group, I whole heatedly think, will be better. Keep Kracken and Big Money on the ends, the monsters in the middle. That can and will be the best front four in the league in a couple years. It all starts with locking up Hardy.

This, times 4, plus 7. You destroy the offense before it starts, you're a defensive genius.

If the Kraken wants to stay, we should make it easy to find him a jersey for a few more years. Hope he realizes that he's not going to get CJ money, however.

Here's the reasons why:

1) CJ is going to be asked to restructure or reduce his contract in a year or two

2) he's had one highly productive year since joining the NFL three years ago

3) he's only going to get credit for half a sack when Star, KK, Dwan, or CJ meet him at the QB all the time

4) the guy that hands out the keys to the candy shop isn't here anymore

5) Gettleman has done this song and dance before with Osi by using Kiwanuka and JPP to cut Osi's snaps. reducing Osi's productivity and therefore how much money he could get this offseason. Frank Alexander's going to get more snaps if the contract talks don't go well....

6) the teams that have salary cap room to sign him to a big contract are generally not as close to the playoffs as we are

Hardy would like the contract now so if he were to get injured he has a guarantee .The Panthers may be willing to pay less to mitigate the risk of Hardy getting injured. It will be interesting to see Gettlemens philosophy.

If Hardy can play like he did last year we will all be happy campers. The guy plays both DT and DE which should give Gettlemen a boner

I cannot believe that Brandon Moore is sitting there...I watched a few drills on Panther.com and saw Kugbila pulling and sealing what would have been a LB.  He was low and quick. He seems powerful. I am aware that one edited clip is not the answer, but it was encouraging.  Last year I saw Hangartner's helmet rise the fastest on the snap of the ball on pass plays.

I cant either.... makes you wonder if he has an injury or just waiting for a big contract

Same thing could be happening to Kraken that's happening to Beason. Kraken won't have to rotate in at DT anymore, so his sack total might go down this season, since he won't be mis-matched on a slower guard nearly as much. Might need a full season at strictly DE to determine what ballpark the contract will be in.

Beason got his big contract as a middle LB. He hasn't played outside LB since Dan Morgan was the middle LB. Might need a full season outside to determine how to re-structure Beason's deal to reflect what outside LBs are paid.

Can't see anything in my crystal ball for our cap situation in 2014 and whether or not we can resign Hardy. Who knows, maybe someone steps up and makes it so we don't need him then.

What I do know is if Cam is hurt then we won't have to worry about having the cap to resign him when that time comes. He can not continue to take the hits he did last year and us expect him to have any longevity. Opposing defenses know all they need to do is bull rush our oline and it folds right up into Cam. We have done nothing to fix this.

GET ERIC WINSTON IN HERE NOW!!!! We can dominate both sides of the ball this year.
