Deangelo Williams Restructures Contract

SCP

Recommended Posts

b/c like I said, Hurney's biggest flaws where mortgaging our future by giving up draft picks AND his contract extensions being too generious. That is why we are in the mess.

Restructruing and tweaking deals to keep the band together? Hurney would be doing all that stuff.

Hopefully, again, like I said our FA pickups will be better since Gettlemen is a football guy. They aren't the same GM...but they aren't polar opposites (don't forget this is Jerry's team).

Do you really believe the way these contracts are being structured bears any resemblance to the way Hurney created them?

Not all restructuring means the same thing.

No...Hurney wouldn't of restructured them to look the same as the initial extensions. That doesn't make sense.

And yes, Hurney would have restructured most likely in the same general scope Gettlemen is.

He would have done Hurney magic....Gross, Williams, Olsen were all obvious restructures.

One man's methods put us in a cap mess.

The other man's methods are getting us out of it.

Yet you want me to believe that the two are equivalent.

Right

he didn't even take a paycut this year. we converted non-guaranteed money into guaranteed money just to move cap hits into the future, something that always has a chance of backfiring. this type of move you can do anytime with any player, it's not some huge victory or "gettlemagic" calm down people

Does this make Barner a wasted pick now? or is this restructure in prep for a trade?

no way this is a prep for trade, panthers would take a much larger dead money hit if we trade DWill now. we'd basically be paying nearly his entire base salary this year to play for someone else whereas previously that money would have completely come off the books

To think Hurney couldn't work Hurney magic on his boys....is a tad far fetched IMO. Also leans heavily to just having a bias against the old and opting to look at the new in a favorable light.

These restructures where so obvious Joe Person pointed them all out. The lone exception being the Stewart one and no one understands what it does.

Hurney was here for a decade....he could do basics. Again, his biggest struggle was going to big on initial extensions for his guys and trading draft picks.

People at like if he was still here he couldn't pull of glaringly obvious moves....

I remain in the camp Hurney was done with football and willing to fall on Richardson sword for him. He was here for a decade....his teams still accomplished more despite the post 2010 statement and Delhomme ordeal than most teams did in that span.

Has Gettlemen really taken is in a new direction or just kept the band together...and had a draft class.....and done the type bargain shipping we have for years. Again, Gettlemen is a football guys so I would imagine he is better at adding talent. But people IMO are spinning Gettlemen as this guru....when Hurney would have done much of the same. Gettlemen will take years to show what he is....

And I again, my stance is rooted in the fact I believe the guy on the golf cart has big input in things.....he just doesn't talk to the media like some owners

Williams is still a 30 yr old RB....he still doesn't fit many of the looks Cam has often thrived in since entering the league.

So no, Williams still largely represents the past....and not a big part of the offense if you are looking at the next 3-4 year window

do people not realize that this is the EXACT same thing Hurney would do time and time again. we'd enter the offseason over the cap (like always), he'd restructure several players pushing cap hits into the future which would have course ensure that we'd be over the cap next season which would start the cycle all over again. this type of move doesn't help cap hell it extends it.

even so i recognize these type of restructures are somewhat of a necessary evil in some situations but honestly we're not in that situation right now where we need to do this. also these moves are best to do with players you know for sure you want to keep around for awhile because of the increased dead money hits if you have to cut them. kalil and olsen were restructured in this manner earlier this offseason, when we needed the money, and they're obviously players we want to keep around long term. doing this for an aging injury prone RB when we don't even need the money for any immediate use makes zero sense

if he blows out his knee in training camp, well thats an extra 4 million in guaranteed money we end up paying that we wouldn't have before this move. if we cut him next year we end up sucking up even more of a dead money cap hit. the only way this move is better is if we keep for at least two more seasons if not three, and even then it's only better than the previous (horrible) contract not better than cutting him

sorry for the real talk, everyone go back to celebrating (just like 99% of people here did when he signed the original contract extension that looks so horrible now)

ultimately, gettlemen is working with the hand he was dealt with, and he's done a good job of it thus far.

...and very few people actually celebrated the retarded contract hurney gave wlliams.

Hurney would have dealt with the hand he dealt himself as well....

Bottom line is we have a new GM. Normally that means drastic change. To date, the band is together. Hurney's roster.

James Anderson being released IMO is the only thing people can realistically say they don't think Hurney would have done. That isn't much when you consider we have a new GM...

Gettlemen must not think Hurney built a bad team....if he did he would have brought in an axe. Or maybe JR thinks it is good.

And no, most of the Huddle endorsed the Williams deal. Go pull an old thread.
