I think CRA is just trolling everybody on this thread. he knows better than that.

Trolling bc I think we should be steadily drafting recieving talent?

Trolling bc I answered a question about talent avaliable that wasn't given any qualifiers

No i just figured you had more sense than that, regardless if there were qualifiers stated in the OP. Guess i was wrong.

The average #2 WR in the NFL last year had 53 receptions, 714 receiving yards, and 5 TD receptions.

Lafell had 44 receptions, 677 receiving yards, and 4 TD receptions.

Lafell averaged right at a half of a reception less per game than the average #2 WR, 2 yards receiving less per game, and one less TD in the *season*.

The average NFL team attempted 34 passes per game last year.

The Panthers averaged 31 pass attempts per game last year.

Mike Wallace's cap hit is 3 mill this year in Miami. Now I am not saying I agree with how they structured it.....but teams can find a way.

If they went after a WR....obviously we would have had to of done other things differently. Like take care of Williams early than today and probably gone ahead and forced some other issues then...

But to say we couldn't of done it....is ony accurate if we did nothing else different

Future cap space for the team is key here. We need a WR, but not at the expense of the overall team.  It's the position that Marty has left us in.

CRA how many years have you been an NFL GM for again? I can't seem to remember.

same number of years all the other people who comment and have opinions on what we do....

half the enjoyment of following a sports team is being an armchair QB, coach, and GM.

not having a legit WR ready to play at a high level when Cam enters year 4.....does come at the expense of this team.

If Ron Rivera is fired....you think odds are high Smith plays? I don't. Drafting a WR then will simply be a gamble and a project regardless of hype and where drafted prior to that 2014 season.

We also will have other concerns like not having a single OT on the roster worth a poo most likely....that could dictate draft picks.

agreed. we could have done more to bring in more talent and make the corps better now and in better shape for the future in the event that we lose smith

100% agreed.

i know there's little we could have done to improve things more than we did. we were stuck in a really bad situation in regards to the cap and with a GM (and a former HC) who really didn't have a clue how best to address the passing game

Wadafa?

It's one thing to make suggestions or comments and quite another to throw a temper tantrum and undermine a new GM who has a mess to clean up before we've even had training camp yet. There is still work to be done.

I don't throw temper tantrums....I have no issue w/ people who have different opinions.  It is too be expected.  That is why, unlike many here, I don't insult other posters, make low blows, or try to pull out the "you aren't a GM card" when people discuss  stuff I disagree with.  I just share my thoughts.

I know there is work to do...but where are here to pass the time and discuss the present.  Tommorrow always brings changes....and that can flip worries or non-worries on their head.

You can dislike my stances....but I don't troll, nor am I disrespectful or childish here.  Everyone can't say that. (that doesn't not mean I am implying in petains to you)

I don't think you are getting what I am saying.

This is the position we have been put in by Hurney. There is little we can do, and it sucks for Cam. Marty should have been addressing the WR position in the first couple of rounds years ago. But when you sacrifice cap space when other positions were in such dire need, you affect the team in many different ways.

Cam has weapons to compete right now, and if he becomes the QB I think he is about to become in year 3, than it was the right move to not sacrifice future cap space on WR. Cam has the ability to make players around him better, he is that talented. What Gettleman has done is cleared cap space for a future move, we have yet to know what move that will be. We have yet to see what these WR's will do right now, most of them very young, like Cam.

You build from the trenches out, I believe in Gettleman's MO. Then you start looking at finesse types of players, i.e wide reciever, safety, cb, ect. It just sucks that Cam is going into year 3 and doesn't have what Matt Stafford, Matt Ryan or Aaron Rodgers has. I get that.

And you saying we need this and we need that, is just a big duh dude. Every single team is in a circular motion regarding talent aging and becoming deficient, and gaining more talent through draft, free agency, ect. This is the position we are in. So here is the question, would you rather have drafted a wide receiver, or signed a WR for big money, that would help Cam or would you have rather taken Gettleman's route. Which way would you have rather gone?  What makes the team compete at a higher level? These are the question we should be asking.

Do you think our D-lines weakness were less than our WR weakness? Which route would you have taken with 16 million over the cap. What would you have done?

edit: And i seriously thought you were trolling just to have a laugh. Cause i didn't think you actually beleived we should go after guys like Jennings and Wallace. My mistake. I wasn't trying to be a dick.
