Gettlemen continues to get criticism for not bringing in a WR

Bottom line is we HAVE invested in drafting WRs lately. Dwayne Jarrett, Keary Colbert, Brandon LaFell, Armanti Edwards, David Gettis, Kealoha Pilares, and Joe Adams.

7 WRs. SEVEN!! That's an entire year's worth of draft picks. Fact is we have been trying to re-stock the position, arguably to the detriment of other positions. Frankly I'm glad we decided to focus on other areas where we didn't have options.

and that list is terrible. bottom shelf talent, with the 2 highest drafted guys out of the league. the next 3 are in contract years, plus the last 3 listed might not make it out of August on the team. i call that a crappy investment.

I think that was the original poster's point.

You don't need to call Smitty and Lafell a very good duo. I just did. Lafell is everything you want out of your #2, good hands, knows the O, runs good routes, can block well, and he is rarely hurt.

We have a #1 WR to get all the big yards and catches. We also have a #1 TE who garners his fair share of attention. The only folks thinking we NEED another stud. Are fans who just aren't happy with the current situation and want more. MORE>>> MORE>>>

We have RBs that can catch, we have a TE that can catch, we have a #1 WR who can catch. We also have Lafell. He may not be the best #2 in the world. But for our needs, at this time, he fits perfectly.

The only thing holding Smitty back is the fact that he, for some unZodly reason, always get tackled short of the goal-line. He must have missed out on a dozen or so TDs through the years.

Upgrade when you can. Sounds good right? That is how Gettlemen works.

It is not! Upgrade now! As some of you would have it.

Oh, and give Lafell enough targets. He will get you your precious 100 yard games.

Excuse me from wanting more out of a 7-9 team with Cam Newton as their qb.

Lafell doesn't get targeted because Lafell isn't open. Only time you see Lafell racking up yards it's usually a blown coverage. He isn't beating anybody.

And do you keep throwing good money at bad investments? No. You switch to something else that has a better chance of being a good investment.

Learn from those past picks. WR is a really tricky position to draft. Would rather sign some established talent, which I hope is Gettleman's plan for next off-season.

Love how fans make up poo to fit their arguement.

But then again, you were for taking Hopkins over Star.....so, there is nothing more to say.

Only because I think a #1 WR is more important to a team than a #1 DT. But you don't think Hopkins will be a #1 WR so your forgiven.

Sign established talent?  With what money?  Isn't our cap situation just as bad next year, as it was this year?

I hope you guys are not banking on signing Hakeem Nicks (which I feel most in here are).  NY has already said they're going to do everything to keep him.  Plus, we still have to sign Cam, possibly Hardy, and majority of our current WR's are free agents next year. We're going to have to spend money to fill out the position again.  I don't see where we're going to get the money to sign a #1 WR.

It is comical to actually find someone who thinks Hopkins should have been taken over Star....that is BEYOND laughable.

Hopkins was a marginal 1st round talent....Star was considered one of the top players in the draft.

I don't think that they understand that Lafell, Hixon, and Ginn, you can add Gettis and Armanti for what it's worth but all of those guys are FAs at the end of the season.

Again Steve Smith is 34 and Gross on the decline. Arguably the two most important positions outside of qb for the offense and nothing was done to prepare for their departure.

Lafell will never be a #1 so why do you guys want to wait until Steve Smith retires to fill his shoes?

Great teams stay great by never rebuilding. They draft and groom. You guys want to draft and plug.

I sure hope that AJ Green or Megatrom shows up in a draft again soon because if Smitty goes down this year or retires our WR corps goes from B- to F

And I thought we would have to cut more players than we did to get under this year's cap. Point is, neither of us knows diddly-poo about the future.

Look at Percy Harvin. He was under contract with Minnesota for this season, but got traded out of town. Do you really think ANYONE on this board could have foreseen that happening?

Unrestricted free agents and draft picks aren't the only way to change your roster. Creativity is something I'm optimistic we now have in the front office.

Some also had Floyd as the #3 pick and he ended up the 3rd DT taken. Some might find that comical.

Some might find it comical that EJ Manuel was selected before Geno and Matt.

Someone would have found it comical if the Browns had drafted Aaron Rodgers instead of Braylon Edwards.

You saying that I value one player of another is comical is comical because we are different people with different opinions so is the rest of the world. That's why whenever you see a redraft of the past it's often quite different.

I don't knock your opinion as you do mine. You would have went with Star as would most on this board and its what our GM did. Just not what I would have done.

As I've said before I believe Star will improve our football team and will be a future Pro Bowler I'm happy to have him, but if I had the pick I would have drafted Hopkins. Nobody has to agree with me it doesn't matter.

We all have our views on how to build a winning team.

The way I see it. The only way we add any WR, or hellz, any player, to this squad, is if he can fight for a starting gig.

Let's see. Smitty is a pro bowl level talent. Olsen, same level of talent. Lafell, solid as it gets. How many teams have 3 pro bowl quality recievers? I guess because we don't have the BEST WR group in the league. We need to upgrade immediately.

Lafell may be listed as the #2WR, but he is often times the 3rd option and maybe even the 4th. That is the reason he doesn't get more than 4 or so targets a game. It is not for a lack of talent on his part. It is the talent ahead of him.

Smitty, Olsen, Lafell, DWill, Stewy, Tolbert, with Hixon, Ginn, and maybe Barner fighting for targets. Seems to me, Cam has plenty of weapons.

We have bigger needs than adding another project WR. If he ain't a starter. We don't need him. At this time. Soon, very soon, we will need him to make his arrival. But it is not going to happen this year. Barring anything unforeseen.

Long story short. We are pretty much who we are going to be. Better than last year, so there is still plenty of reasons to be excited. The field is open for someone to take advantage of this opportunity.

Kinda got carried away. Deal. And GOOOOO CATS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
