Gettlemen continues to get criticism for not bringing in a WR

Up until we didnt draft one.....most agreed with the masses that WR and S where two spots this draft had plenty of. We don't draft one and now it was weak?

A draft class doesn't have to have a Megatron to not be weak.

Man, this WR class was loaded with 6 and 7's.....talent wise! We drafted a 9.5 and 8.7 to fix our biggest problem on Defense! I will take that over drafting another no.2 reciever! We need a clear cut, sure thing no.1 and more than likely we will have to pull an Atlanta to get it! Unless we have a breakout, a la Cruz, or can trade our way into a no.1 WR, we are going to have to hit a sure thing in the draft next year

Its simple. There wasn't a WR where we picked, in the 1st two rounds that were better players than who we picked. If you think we should've passed on Star and picked Hopkins at 14, then you're on crack. And by the time we picked at 44 the best WRs from this class were long gone.

I thought it was common knowledge that this draft class was weak at WR. Any information to the contrary would be news to me. However, I will see if there is any credible analysis on the subject. I thought it was a given......

Give me a few mins to look.

You can start by the looking at the draft. WR may not have been "top heavy" but it was certainly deep

Star is a run stuffer. Hopkins is going to put points on the board.

Where was the starting WR talent in this years draft? This draft was very weak at the WR position. The first receiver off the board was Tavon Austin! A 5'8" 174 pound slot receiver. The WR class of 2013 lacked any clear standout talent, and the group didn't have the depth to stretch into the 4th round. There was no Julio Jones, no A.J. Green.

As for free agency, was 28 year old Dwayne Bowe the answer for the future? How about 27 year old Mike Wallace? Or 29 year old Greg Jennings, 32 year old Wes Welker, 27 year old Amendola, 32 year old Brandon Lloyd?

FA sure isn't the "long term solution" nor could we afford any of them!

So, where is this long term help supposed to come from? I have an idea, lets allow the plethora of youthful talent we have at the position learn to play WR. Our best chance at a long term solution this offseason is going to have to come from the roster.

There are plenty of WRs in this years class that will be day 1 starters.

Star was the best DT in the draft. And will help keep points off the board.

Hopkins may be a good WR. But at 14? No. Where was he selected again? Near the bottom of the 1st?

I'm sure Star was rated higher on most teams bigboard.

Finding credible sources to discuss position strengths in like pulling teeth, however,

in 2013 there were 28 WRs drafted (6 in the 1st/2nd rounds,  10 in the 6th/7th rounds)

in 2012 there were 34 WRs drafted (9 in the 1st/2nd rounds,  9 in the 6th/7th rounds)

In a league that is moving towards a pass heavy offensive system, paired with the lack of WRs taken early in the 2013 draft, I would assume it was a weaker position than the year prior.

Strictly based on opinion..Richardson was taken while Star was still on the board. There was an unusual amount of o line depth in this draft which is why other positions fell.

Most of you were screaming get Hopkins in the second when I stated over and over again that he wouldn't be there.

Too many of ya'll say there wasnt a Julio or Megatron etc... well if that's what your waiting for its never going to happen. Julio Jones went higher than Roddy White but right now he's the #2 on that team.

You check back with me during the next few years. DeAndre Hopkins will have a bigger impact than Star ever will.

I don't know why you guys act like the Panther model is gold. We are a franchise that never has put together consecutive winning seasons.

A franchise QB with a bunch of stop gap WRs is not a model I am happy with. What playmakers have we added to this team since drafting Cam?

Now compare with the 2011 class of Julio and AJ that you guys like to bring up so much.

It would be a safe wager to bet this class produces a stud WR. Too many looking for a Megatron pre draft.....overlooking the Steve Smiths, Mike Wallaces, Greg Jennings', etc. Too much WR talent for it not to have some of the latter. Those guys where viewed in the same light as this class

The only problem with that is we have a new GM. He invested in DT's for his FIRST draft. That is something we are not use to. Who is to say he won't double down on WR next year? How do you know Star is not going to be as impactful at Hopkins? You are dealing in hypotheticals just as the rest of us are. You know nothing, just like we know nothing. We took stellar prospect DT's with the first two picks.

How do you know a WR isn't going to break out this year? We have a young core. This is an offense that put up a ton of yards the past two seasons. And a defense that gave up a ton of Rushing yards. We needed WR help and we needed DT help. We don't know anything, and to say this GM is the same as Marty, which you were infering in the text I bolded, makes you sound ignorant.

Is it a safe wager we would have picked the one that produces like a stud WR? What was the safer wager, Star, Kwann or a WR in the first or second round. Do you know? Should we have just guessed at the WR? Or is Star and Kwann more productive in college than any of the wide recievers available at their respective positions.
