Gettlemen continues to get criticism for not bringing in a WR

"Any player can flop" is not exactly a sound draft strategy.

didn't say it was...

just reposnded to someone suggested Star already meant tons to this team and the WRs would have been a silly thought.  DTs have a high bust rate and we drafted one whose stock was failing.  He could bust.  He is no safer than if we grabbed a WR in the first.

the cap can be handle and messed with each year to handle signing whoever you liked(prorating money, bonus, contract language). for instance, every year it seems as tho the redskins are in cap hell, but then they come away with some sort of way to sign big name guys. again Star had to be the pick in that situation, but i do not like trading future picks. but if you think a guy is a cant miss player then you have to go get him.(i do not think Hunter is a cant miss player).

Hixon is a guy who has had several acl injuries an the giants thought so highly in him that they still drafted several WRs high after obtaining him. he is jag at best. Ginn is someone who will help with the field position and thats about it. either guy is no more then a 3 WR in 2 WR sets, so dumpster diving is what was done with the position this year.

You are missing the key point here. Balance of the team. I want us to model ourselves after the 49ers. And i think that is what Gettleman is doing or they are just using the same philosophy. What happens when Cam and Hardy's contract comes up? What happens when Luke's contract comes up? Just because you can push money around certain ways is the reason we got into this mess. The Redskins are not the model to follow. Obviously, while they may sign a big name, they are sacrificing other positions. We want a well balanced team. We want to have some room to make sure we are able to do that, and signing some big name FA WR could eventually cripple us.

Gettleman said as much in some pressers I've heard and I agree with him. Whose to say some WR we sign doesn't make that jump? I understand the frustrations, I want Cam to be helped. But you can't do that by sacrificing the betterment of the entire team.

I give LaFell 3 years....he was the only legit investment at the position.

Problem is we are hanging on to longshots and projects....giving them too much time.

Yeah I am questioning whether or not Adams makes the team with that in mind. Make or break it time for Rivera means volatility. If we start losing, anyone could shake from the tree at that point.

As I have been saying I don't know if it is the right decision or not, but Gettlemen is banking on our defense. That is where all of resources went. So I don't want to hear it this year if our offense fails to put put points constantly.

This season is about our top 5 defense carrying us.

What free agent WR's have been available that would have a chance to start over Smith or Lafell?

A second round rookie would not start over either.

Ginn was brought in to compete for that 3rd WR spot in 3 wide sets.

I am not sure Dukes or Davis have a clue on what they are talking about.

Well, actually Robert Woods is getting rave reviews so far up in Buffalo.  He probably won't be the only one.

Don't laugh, but "Yes."  I think this team could win a Super Bowl in 2013.  If Cam steps up, this team can beat anyone.  The odds are not good, but they will continue to get better each year, if Gettlemen continues to improve us through sensible, frugal means.

You cannot be awesome at every position.

WHen we went to the Super Bowl, who was our FS?  Our DBs?  Who was our slot WR? Who were our TEs?   Before that season, did you think Ricky Proehl, Terry Cousins, Reggie Howard, Kris Mangum, Mike Siedman, and Deon Grant would be good enough?  They were good enough to put the team in position to be there and to win the game.  Did you really think Jake was going to lead us to the promise land, or were we to trust in Rodney Peete?

The key to the offense is not WR, it is RG.  While we need to upgrade WR, it was not a good year for it.   Next year, we have to address WR, DB, and OT.  This year, we have to trust what we have.

What excites me is this:  We are getting better without mortgaging the future.  Gettlemen is not only building this team for the future, he is doing it with one arm tied behind his back (Hurney.  We are getting better while saving. While the odds are against us winning the Super Bowl in 2013, they will continue to get better  each year as long as Gettlemen is in charge.

This year is not about Cam stepping up. This year is about our defense leading our offense.

You cannot give Cam no added weapons and expect him to step up.

Cam should do his part, keep the mistakes to a min., and attempt to have an Alex Smith type year.

how do you know that no WR picked in the 2nd or later could have not been an upgrade over Lafell? you dont, he chose to take BPA in some areas of need. i honestly think he went into the draft thinking he was going to take Short in the 2nd round reguardless of what happened in the 1st.

Because the staff felt that way.

Why am I arguing with you guys...you are the same ones that thought Swope was a 3rd rounder and Togers would be taken in the 2nd round.

Would I have been happy with a WR in the 2nd round? Sure.

Was one worth more than fixing our atrocious DL? Don't know. But apparently the staff did not see one.

In this draft, Hopkins and Hunter were the only real complete WR's. Austin and Patterson were intriguing. But, all were gone when we picked in the 2nd round.

I thought the ouch was going to be Allen or a CB. With the amount of time we spent looking at Allen, that tells me that we saw something with him that we did not like.

Only thing I may have done differently was drafted Quinton Patton in the 4th, and waited another round for Kugbila if we really wanted him. Wouldn't have minded Allen in the 2nd but I like the Short pick too.

We would have done that if we felt Kugzilla would have still been there in the 5th.

From what i have read about him, he really impressed every coaching staff that worked him out and that many had a 4th rd grade on him,

OG was bigger issue than WR and the staff addressed that.

Rave reviews from the team that drafted him? really?

A rave review after rookie camp? Tell me more!

I really can't say it's the Bills that put this out, but perhaps some beat writer(s), or someone. But I heard it on local radio from some national type, and that's the only way I knew about it. You can also look at the video here. Apparently Woods and Nuk (down in Houston) are making an instant impression.

I don't have a dog in the fight. We've picked who we picked, and it is what it is. It's past the time to cry over spilled milk. I embrace our picks. That being said, it is kind of presumptuous for one to think, IMO, that there won't or can't be a rookie WR that has more value, or will make more of an impact, this coming season than LaFell, Ginn, or Hixon.
