The Panthers contacted Charles Woodson's agent...HOWEVER

All I care is that we tried. Said it in a few threads before, effort means everything. Lack of effort is what pissed me off during the Hurney era.

Absolutely agree. Gettlemen, with his budget as tight as can be, still is managing to get guys that Hurney could never get with 30+million in cap space.

I think we're really beginning to see how horrible Hurney, and the Hurney era, actually are.

Without a doubt agree with this. We are now with a competent group running the show. Jury is still out on Rivera and this season will be the test but I think we instant shifted in the right direction with signing gettleman

I don't know where this school of thought about him not being able to start is coming from?  Yes, he has suffered some injuries, but his career is pretty much mirroring another Woodson - Rod - at this point.  A lot of people had given up on Rod after blowing out his knee and he ended up having an awesome career until he retired, which included a shift to safety.  And IIRC, didn't he play up until he was about 40?

Again, the thing with age, depending on the amount of injuries, is not ability any longer...  Most guys retain their abilities for the most part, it's the recovery from Sunday to Sunday that affects their abilities.  If they're able to deal with that, then they can keep playing.

I hope we get him.

Rod Woodson tore his knee up when he had just turned 30. They never even place him on IR and he returned in the same season.

But, he wasn't exactly the same after that, at least for a year or so after.  He eventually left the Steelers and played for the Ravens, Raiders, and Niners (off the top of my head) and made the switch to safety and was extremely successful in doing so.

I loved when we had Vinny T. I remember he really got through to dwill

Steve Smith said he learned a lot from Vinny T.

“No. 2 would be a guy who’s probably surprising,” Smith said. “When Jake got hurt, we brought in Vinny Testaverde, and Vinny taught me some things to this day that I have at home on my nightstand. He taught me how to run some routes (from) all the guys he played with, Keyshawn (Johnson), Wayne Chrebet, he played with some guys I grew up admiring.
