2013 NFL O-linemen Busts?

Recommended Posts

I'll tell you right now, Kyle Long will not be a bust; watched tape on him this past year for a few guys and the can play. If you get a chance, watch him in Oregon's bowl game; he dominated.

Im not saying this to just get me out of trouble but out of the four guys that I listed as potential busts, I was 50/50 on Long because the man has a football pedigree. I dont see why a person with that much experience can bust, but I'm wondering what he's going to really be in the pro; OT or OG??? I cant quite figure what he is best suited for. He has the size of an OT, but many seems to say he should be push inside and play guard. That's my problem with the man.

I wanna say that the Bears like him as an OG, but don't quote me on that lol.

That's the problem. I think that's been what I've heard.

From PFT : Bushrod is set as the LT, Webb and Jonathan Scott battling out for the RT, Garza at Center, with Slauson and Long at Guards. Carimi may be cut.

Long could potentially become a very good Guard, but I dont see his body being big and wide enough to play inside. He's 6'6" and much leaner than the typical NFL Guard. As an Guard, I think he has the potential to "bust". I dont think he's a NFL LT either. I can see him as an average RT. I hope he and the rest does well, but I would not be surprise to see any of those guys become bust 2-4 years from now. Danny Watkins was a terrific prospect out of Baylor and Carimi was one of those Wisconsin Offensive Lineman that are as close to a sure thing as possible. Those two eventually never lived up to their potential.

My real problem is Lane Johnson. I think that people made him up to be better than he really is. I will stand by my words. If he has a terrific career, I will have to eat my words one day. But now, Im standing by it.

LOL, someone finally asked that?

Forest City. :P

I drive through Forest City every weekend on the way to my house in Hendersonville.  I even took a piss test in Forest city back in the day to get a job for Rutherford Electric.  I usually stop at the food lion to buy a case of beer before I head up the mountain.

Yeah, when I first saw him I just thought Otah part II...

That being said, I don't know a whole lot about his practice/eating habits & work ethic.

I think he's the overall best O-lineman in this draft, but sometimes the "cant miss" prospect are the one who do go on and bust. Warmack isn't as athletic as Cooper, and that's a reason to why I can see him busting in the NFL. He's a nasty brawler on on run blocking, but I still want to see more out of him in pass blocking. Cooper moves a lot better and imo is much better than Warmack in pass protection. But, Cooper is going to a terrible offensive line in Arizona and Warmack is set to succeed on a very good Tennessee offensive line led by a former Guard himself, Mike Munchak.

OT's....if they are there and you have a good feel for them, you take them.

Gross has been soooo very valuable to the team.  It's just part of the game.

I agree. and that's part of the value of just an Offensive Tackle.

We were very fortunate that Gross turned out well for us.

I think thats one of the main reason why we see a lot of these O-linemen bust in the NFL. They're considered a valuable position to have protecting your quarterback and teams seem to keep reaching for these guys.
