Ronde Barber: Steve Smith toughest receiver to cover

Recommended Posts

How witty with your snide remarks.

One of the best CBs in NFL history is retiring and gives respect to Smitty as he does and you all act glib. Sad really.

I was saying what I said because of how good I believe Smitty is in regards to national media and my knowledge as a fan.  Saying captain obvious is sarcastic, but don't act like you don't ever grace us with witty sarcasm and snide remarks.

Great classy remarks by Barber. I have a feeling that he won't be the only corner that will say this.

Revis has stated that smitty is the toughest receiver he's been asked to cover.

I think it mostly comes down to how tough it is to stick to smith.  You can player perfect coverage vs calvin johnson or larry fitz, but they are still in a very good position to catch the ball just due to their height and size.  smith doesnt have that, and even though he wins a good chunk of jump balls, he needs to have better savvy and knowledge of the game to get separation.

I remember that interview.

I was meaning more down the line that there will be others that will be saying the same thing.

I've also noticed Smitty has put on some bulk on his upper body in pads but when you see him in person, I don't know where that weight is because he doesn't look that big.

Idk Frizzy, there arent too many times when Smitty gives up an int on a jump ball and he's extremely hostile in the air with his hands. He plays as big as those other guys imo . . because he still out leaps defenders.

There's no difference in Megatron vs Smitty threat wise. If Megatron has a slight vertical advantage then Smitty has a horizontal one. It evens out if you ask me. Too shifty to cover or too tall? Theyre both nightmares and going to make you look bad.

shifty has a longer career though. haaaaa Eight NINE!

I don't think he's the same class of threat Megatron is now. But in his prime I think Smith is more dangerous because he's probably the best YAC WR of all time and he had the speed to beat anyone and the vertical to win jump balls. He's basically unstoppable. Remember he scored at will on a punt return in the NFC championship game when Seattle put 3 guys on him to stop him.

No he's not in his prime anymore. Coaches have pulled certain plays that he cant execute anymore. Its true, Megatron is the baddest man at the moment. I have no problem admitting that, I just dont want to hear anyone around here saying it after I've been hearing them say it for 4 years. You dont get to say it for 4 years then when it happens. . claim that youre right.

Smitty is now leaving his prime, not 4 years ago, not 3 years ago, not 2 years ago. . now. Some huddlers are more interested in being right than caring about there players' legacies.

    • I complete disagree. Who is available is extremely relevant. If you have a couple of players you would be happy with and you can still get them if you trade back, you should do that in a heartbeat. Being afraid that people will lowball you next year is an odd stance. Then you just say no next year, problem solved. In this particular draft you can get a very good player at 46. But to each their own.
    • I don't think so.  Watson really screwed them up.  I see something happening, but do not know what.  Cousins could be had in a trade--but they liked Flacco when he played there.  If it were me, I would not spend the #2 pick on Sanders.  I would go after a tier 2 qb because I think Will Howard is going to start in the NFL soon, and I think Ewers was rated very high at the beginning of the year--he knows adversity and he beat out a Manning while taking Texas to 2 playoff appearances.  I am not good at picking QBs, but I think Howard's run pass option and his accuracy is going to help someone.  Stay in Ohio and play for the Browns behind Flacco--
    • After Cam at #1, there are three or four elite players and there could be a trade--If I am the Giants and I am needed a winning season badly and I have several needs, I might trade out and pick up mid first and an extra second rounder, including a QB--while nobody is going to move up to #3 for Sanders, they might for Carter or Hunter.  If the Giants then move back, Sanders could still be in play.  That could be the trade in the top 3.  New England wants Campbell and I get that; Jacksonville at #5 could move back if someone wants Graham or Jeanty.  But barring some trade, the top 4 are probably locked in. So it could be 2 hours into the draft before we get any surprises. Nice list, by the way--you nailed it.
