They are not Debbie Downers. They are Realists. All they are trying to do is keep us Homers from getting too carried away. Because they are able to see things as they are, and us Homers only see things through rose colored glasses. They help keep the balance needed to keep things in perspective.

Or is it that they just like feeling as though they are all knowing, all seeing, and all that.

Those folks are almost as annoying as, elderly people that have to pay with exact change. Harmless in general. But time consuming none the less.
