Panthers Prospect: FB Eric Breitenstein

Recommended Posts

We signed Zordich right after the draft as a UDFA. We obviously preferred him as a FB over this guy.

I'm not saying you are wrong, but you didn't add anything to the discussion. You just said he sucks and that was it. Could be we prefer Zordich over him. But Breitenstein is talented. Ran option schemes at Wofford, can catch out of the backfield, is a hard runner. He didn't block hardly at all which is a question mark. Ran 125 yards against USC his senior year.

Zordich played against higher competition, heavy hitter, good blocker for Silas at Penn, about 500 total yards his senior year.

The two are completely different types of fullbacks. Zordich is a traditional fullback while Breitenstein is more of a tolbert-type of back. Not saying they are the same player but if i had to give a comparison it would be tolbert.

Now who fits the team better is the question. Who provides the best depth? We already have brockel and harstock.  You could come up with the conclusion that we already have two players who can play like Zordich. None of those fullbacks can play like Breitenstein.

My conclusion would be that he is excellent depth.  Who knows, but apparently he has impressed in camp.

FWIW, Hoover was a feature running back a la Breitenstein before he became a FB for the Panthers. Hoover never did any blocking in college that I know of. We all know how Hoover turned out too.

I was able to watch both these guys play college ball. Hoover was my first thought when I saw this thread. Can we strike gold twice?

Any info you got him as a blocker? Thanks in advance.

As already said, he's not really a "fullback", he was just the up-man in an option offense. He compares a lot, in my mind, to Peyton Hillis. Large, but quicker than expected.
