Two 2014 Recievers not named Lee or Watkins

Recommended Posts

Two guys that we should be paying attention to more than Marqise Lee and Sammy Watkins are Jordan Matthews and Cody Hoffman. One of these two guys could push to be the no.2 best receiver next year leading to the Draft, but as of right now Lee and Watkins should be regarded as the two top receivers. Assuming that hopefully we wont be drafting in the Top15 again next year, let's pay closer attention to Matthews and Hoffman.

Jordan Matthews, WR Vanderbilt (6'3" 205 lbs)
40 time: 4.55
2012: 94 rec, 1323 yds, 8 tds
2011: 41 rec, 778 yds, 5 tds

Jordan Matthews is the cousin to probably the best to ever played his position "Jerry Rice". Matthews had some very good games vs. Tennessee, Georgia, Florida, USC, Mizzou, and Ole Miss last season. His speed and highlights reel doesn't "WOW" you like Lee or Watkins but he has enough speed to break away after the catch. He's not as elusive and athletic as Lee and Watkins, but he's a big possession receiver who can make some incredible tough catches. He uses his body favorably creating mismatch vs. smaller corners. Matthews seems like a very mature and smart kid.

My NFL Comparison: Slower Vincent Jackson

Cody Hoffman, WR BYU (6'4" 215 lbs)
40 time: 4.56

2012: 100 rec, 1248 yds, 11 tds

2011: 61 rec, 943 yds, 10 tds

Cody Hoffman is another big possession receiver like Matthews. Like Matthews, he is not going to stretch the field. Hoffman can catch the ball at the highest point. He seem to be more elusive and plays faster than Matthews on the field even though both runs very similar 40 times. Considering how terrible BYU QB is, I don't know how Hoffman even managed to put up the numbers he did last season.

My NFL Comparison: Jordy Nelson

i think Cody compares more to Jackson, but they are both alright.check these 3 guys out this year. they are younger and could pass these guys if they declare and produce this year.

DeVante Parker Louisville 6'3 205. one of teddy b huge targets. can get vertically up the field, and has some wiggle to him once he has the ball in his hands. check out his TD from the cinnci game.uses his body well, and is a big target for his QB. had a final stat line of 40 744 and 10 TDs last year.

Donte Moncreif Ole Miss 6'3 215. this guy destroyed the duo of Banks and Slay last year. he torches Banks so bad, that they put Slay on him, and he ended up beating him.had 7 catches for 173 and 3TDs on Mississippi St. he can get vertically up the field and can attack the ball in the air with ease. last year final stat line 66 catches 979 yards and 10 TDs.

Mike Evans Texas A&M 6'5 218. huge target with soft hands. football johnny favorite outside target. like johnny, he is a redshirt Sophomore and believe he is on the cusp of having a huge stock after this season. competes for the ball on every throw and uses his size to his advantage. had 82 catches 1105 yards and 5 TDs last year.

these 3 guys will give those 2 guys and maybe even push the top 2 guys as being the best WR to come out next year.

Evans is the guy more people need to be aware of, IMO. Could be a top fifteen selection. Big, strong, athletic and sure-handed, everything you want in a receiver.

WOw! thank you DCK for showing me these prospects. Ive been trying to watch it but been busy with preparing myself for Summer Classes. Finally had the chance to look at it just now.

Parker and Moncreif are definitely very intriguing prospects. They have some speed and can def stretch the damn field. What I love about Parker is that he catches with his hands. Bridgewater overthrew a couple passes early in the highlights or else Parker wouldve been gone vs. Pitts. Moncrief def caught my eyes also. He made some incredible tough catches in those highlights. I think these two receivers can potentially push Watkins and Matthews for the 2nd or 3rd spot. Mike Evans is very similar to Hoffman imo. Amazing size but I think he's right there with Hoffman. I would still believe that Matthews is ahead of Evans though. If all these guys come out with Lee and Watkins next year, wow wont that be some big receivers coming into the NFL!

I'm really intrigued by Montcrief. My favorite team is Mississippi State, and I saw Donte torch us in the Egg Bowl last year. If he keeps up his good play, I'd love to see him in a Panthers uniform. He can be that guy that would stretch the field for us.

Matthews is good, but he also benefited from having a player like Rodgers throwing him the ball.

ha...Rodgers is not that great.  at all.

Vandy succeeded despite his deficiencies last season.  Stacy and Matthews made the offense.

yes he did. he had his way that game, and MSU could not stop him at all.
