Another very knowledgable article from NFL.com

This doesn't bother me, to outsiders it's not going to seem that the WR group has a lot of talent, and frankly it's on the receivers to prove them wrong. Gettleman and Rivera have made a calculated gamble that we can go places with the group as structured, so we'll see who's right. I do wonder why Olsen never gets grouped in with the receivers; I mean, Brady does well with nothing but tight ends and one good (now gone) receiver.

If only we wasted another late round pick on a WR like we have every draft. That has worked out swimmingly.

Edwards

Gettis

Adams

Pilares

Lafell- has turned out pretty good

Jarrett

It is early to pass judgement on Adams and Pilares but it appears right now that is 5 wasted picks in the last several drafts.

Should we draft a WR or CB just to say we drafted one or do we want ballplayers who can actually contribute.

That is why sportswriters shouldnt be GMs

And if we drafted a WR the question would be why didn't we draft a DT.  Sorry, dipshits who keep writing these articles, we only had 5 picks, and no 3rd round pick. What the fug were we supposed to do?  Get some scrub receiver in the 4th, 5th, or 6th round?  If there was a Julio Jones somewhere down that far in the draft I sure as hell wasn't aware of it.  I don't think they realize we don't need another LaFell... we need another Smitty, and that man is irreplaceable.

BPA bitches, BPA.

I didn't agree with the Cam hit piece that Adam Schein wrote even though pieces of the article not related to Cam were ingrained with truth.  But this article really wasn't overtly negative.  He pointed out the fact the Carolina made huge upgrades to the D-line while still pretty much ignoring the WR position as they always have.

He also pointed out the fact that Carolina in his words has a "paper thin" secondary.  I don't think anyone would confuse Carolina's secondary with being good.  The pass rush and front 7 is what really shined in the defense and made a secondary that really isn't that talented, look serviceable.  It's odd how Carolina ranked dead last in completion % allowed yet still stayed in the middle of the pack in reference to passing yards allowed.  I attribute it to a stout linebacking core that can stay with receivers downfield and bring them down quick and a d line that could get to the QB and finish.

You might not like the article, but it's tough to argue his points.  Plus he does show some optimism about the Panthers.

Except he completely left out our TE who isn't some nobody. He stated that cam will have less to work with even though we added two WRs through FA and retained everyone we had last year and still had a top 12 offense with that group. He obviously doesn't care that much to do research or those facts didn't fit his storyline of "panthers are gonna blow"

I don't think its an issue of him not knowing Ginn and Hixon were added.  I think it was more about him not thinking that either one of them are legitimate #2 guys.  They haven't been able to get consistent pt as #3 in there career yet so I don't think people see them as huge additions.   I'll agree, that Olsen is a good player and I don't think Cam has less to work with.  He just doesn't have much more to work with either.

I think hixon was a good pick up cause he's shown he can be a difference maker on those 3rd downs. That's all we really need. Someone else that can make tough 3rd down catches to keep drives alive. Our current receivers group is fine until next year when we have better options like nicks or the WRs in the draft.

Fair point about Hixon.  He is known as a guy that will perform at least consistently.  And honestly, the offense Carolina has built really needs to rely on the run game anyway.  If Cam is the leading rusher again then the offense will stall out so the wideouts you have now may be serviceable enough.

Smith is still a threat even though he's older and one of those guys that always comes to play.  But I don't believe LaFell is a viable #2. Ginn was a guy that I thought had potential to be solid players in the league but never realized his potential outside of the return game.  Hixon is a guy that doesn't flash and isn't someone who is going to make defenses sweat but he will make the plays he should make if you know what I mean.  You don't have to worry about him making bone head mistakes or dropping a bunch of passes.

The wide receiver position has been long ignored by the franchise and it has always boggled my mind why, but this offense lives and dies by the run game pretty much.  If it gets going, Carolina can run the game the way they like.  Slowly marching down the field using every down they can to control the clock.  If the run game comes out stagnant, you will find yourselves in the same situation as last year.  Competing, but not winning.

What's up with NFL.com completely trying to poo on us before the season. I've never seen it this bad. We literally retained all of the guys we had last year and added two more and yet this article says cam has less to work with? I don't understand what these guys are talking about

OL, WR corps, etc will likely both be worse in 13 than 12....starters.

Guys like Steve Smith, Gross, etc are getting worse. Staying the same is actually getting worse.

Ultimately we add castoffs and spend the offseason arguing with ourselfs about how these guys are finally going to shine now that they are in a panther uniform....

Well, actually we aren't getting any special attention here. They have done 'Draft Fallout" pieces on man teams (probably plan to get to all of them).

I really don't see anything that rises to the level of getting shitted on. In order for people to be higher of the team, the Panthers are going to have to "bring it" on Sundays and come out with some wins. Once they do, people will change their tune.
