If you were Gettlemen

This is the scenario (not actual) You currently have about 5.8 million in cap and about 4 million after the June 1 cuts.It will take about 4 million to sign the rookies. You can cut Dwill and save another 3 million .You also want to give yourself a 2 million cushion in case of injuries.Based on your knowledge of what each FA wants to get signed where do you spend this money or we go with what we have?

examples :I think a guy like Winston will cost at least 3 million per year and you may have to give 3 million to sign a guy like Woodson

I would roll with what we have and see how the rookies look and how much improvement the 2nd year players have made since last year. If after training camp it looks like we really need to upgrade a position, bring in a vet like they did with Dwan Edwards for a short term deal. If what Gettleman says is true, our secondary isn't going to be as bad as we might think. Plus, they are already saying good things about the UDFA safety from Alabama, Lester. I mean the guy started at Alabama for over 3 years. In his sophmore season he had like 8 interceptions. He could be a gem and starter at the position, too early to say.

If I were Getty, since I don't have emotional ties towards D-Will, i'd make him a June 1st cut, sign the rookies, and keep the 3 mil for injuries, or maybe even like you said go after a veteran free agent. I think D-Will is as good as gone.  I hate to say it cause hes been my favorite Panther for years but with 3 RB's and a desperate need for more cap space, it's the most rational move and the best thing for the Panthers to do

I think Dwill stay on the until  next year ......

Do you say that because you feel like we would need to replace him negating the benefit of releasing him?

With Stews injury that may be a valid concern. My thoughts are we could still replace him and save some cap space. This could play in to why Gettlemen drafted a RB which he has been criticized for.

How about the OL? I think we will go with what we have at guard being we drafted one but is Bell the guy at the ROT? Has he reached his peak or is he still developing?

I think he would be more of a value to the team than what its worth releasing him this year...... Stew's injury doesn't concern me he'll be back with a full season to heal...........I'm looking forward to have 2 bruising back for our running game that can pound the ball since where going back to the power running game ( to me its the foundation for our offense) having 2 starting caliber RB will keep the production steady while interchanging them for pace and rest.  ( The one big thing im banking on is that Kugbila comes up big and takes the starting RG from Hangartman  which shouldnt be 2 hard the way Hangartman played)

I think Bell will improve tremendously if Kugbila or someone else can step up for RG spot.........  Plus going back to more of traditional style offense will help the OL in general

I wonder if he'll wait and try to sign a couple of guys to decent one year deals. Maybe not Winston and Woodson per se but those two or a couple like them for one year deals could help us compete this year and not eat in the future years space.
