  1. 1. Who's the better Wide Receiver? (assuming healthy)

It could go either way. They could say they want the better (Pilares) or they could say they want the one with more potential (AE). People for whatever reasons just like the guy with more room/potential. Thats why teams always draft the rawer players over the more polished guys.

Considering Pilares comes back healthy, if we want a ST guy (gunner) then Pilares makes the team. If we want a guy to confuse defense on offense, AE makes the team. Who knows? I expect both of them to get cut. Thats my opinion. I dont care who makes it. Theres nothing special between those two guys.

Chuck....AE doesn't have any potential. You've see all he's got.

Gettis basically had 2 good games. Lafell has shown that he is a legitimate starter that can stay healthy. Gettis had some great promise, but until he gets back on the field again and does something, it is definitely Lafell.

i think it's kind of a push to say two good games. that one against the 49ers was great, for sure.

against the ravens......92 yards and a TD, but 88 of those yards and that TD came in the 4th quarter in a game that the ravens had well in hand and weren't all that concerned with us...and then they answered back with a FG and two pick 6s in just over ten seconds.

that 88 yard TD was pretty much luck. we were the ravens chew up toy that day.

Isn't that the longest play in panther's history too? Brian St. Pierre to Dave Gettis? That'll probably win you a bar bet.

David Gettis' rookie stat with Matt Moore, Jimmy Clausen, Brian St. Pierre, and Tony Pike at Quarterback play:

37 rec, 508 yds, 3 tds

Lafail's stat with Cam Newton:

2011: 36 rec, 613 yds, 3 tds

2012: 44 rec, 677 yds, 4 tds

How similar

Keary Colbert had 47 catches for 754 yards and 5 TDs as a rookie. He sure turned out awesome. I really hope Gettis can come back healthy and be great, but I think it's time to stop clinging to measurables and a decent rookie season 3 years ago. Time to put up or shut up and stop occupying a roster spot.

lafell has improved his route running significantly since being drafted, and it's probably his biggest strength outside of being a solid run blocker. what he lacks in top end over-the-top speed he makes up for with the ability to create separation (and a knack for finding empty spots in the zone on what look like option plays.) gettis, meanwhile, has all the potential of jerry rice - just like every other guy that gets drafted. lafell is the only one of them that's legitimately produced.

lafell by a mile.

Wow, as many times as I've seen that pass I never really noticed how Smitty pretty much damn near takes out the whole defensive backfield on that play.  He pushes one player out of position, cuts in front of the other to slow him down while LaFell continues to build up speed & separation, then just completely takes out the last defender, who was actually about to catch LaFell, by smashing into him and tripping him up.  That play more than likely wouldn't have happened without #89.

Not too dissimilar from his 3-man block on Cam's 72-yard TD run.  Even when Smitty isn't making the big play he seems to be a huge part of it one way or another.

Damn you Smitty, why you gotta go and start getting old on us?  Gonna cry some manly tears when this man retires.

his blocking is pretty near legendary. moose had some fierce ones in his time as well. i remember one time he knocked pushed two guys down to the ground at the same time. lafell is coming into his own as a good blocker come to think of it, although i think he was pretty good when he got here.

We don't know if Gettis improved from his rookie year or not, he hasn't seen the field. He has the potential to be the best on the team.

But right now I think LaFell is better. He has the experience to play confidently and he is a really reliable target on 3rd down. Every year he improves.
