Post Draft Season Predictions

I love what Gettleman has done this offseason but I don't trust Rivera and Shula. I hate that JR made the decision to keep the coaching staff before hiring a GM. He should have let someone that actually knows how to build a winning team make that decision.

Based on the talent of the roster they really SHOULD win 9-10 games or more but I fully expect a few herp derp moments from our bottom 5 coaching staff and another year of missing the playoffs. Ronny gone after this year, Gettleman gets to pick his own guy.

To me it's actually the exact opposite. Especially the defense that let us down in most of those gut-wrenching games. We were starting a 5th round corner, Nakamura, and patch work defensive tackles. Those are the ones that fuged poo up.  Rivera made some bone-headed mistakes, but he was handed a talent-depleted team in key positions.  And the depth of this team don't even get me started.  Rivera has actually done some really nice things, that people tend to look over. But I expect big things this year with some of the upgrades we have made at positions.  And there has been upgrades, maybe not major, but upgrades nonetheless.  If he doesn't produce, he will be gone. But I think we make the playoffs even with this tough schedule.

The first game against the Seahawks is honestly going to be one our toughest games. But, I think we can handle it. Cam is going to be pissed about the previous game.

I think you guys have a legit shot against them.  First off, while they are a very good team, they aren't the dominant powerhouses that the media makes them out to be.  There defense is solid, particularly in the back-end with those big, physical corners and safeties.  But look closely and you will find that while their defense is good, it is not great.

Seattle likes to keep their offense on the field and their defense off.  They aren't about quick scores, they want to control the game much like Carolina.  Seattle was 2nd only behind Pittsburgh in least amount of defensive snaps for the season.  But did you know that Seattle was 27th in the league in rushing yards allowed per attempt?  Put those two stats together and you start to see that the D might not be as impenetrable as ESPN would lead us to believe.  They just do a great job on offense running the ball and keeping their defense on the bench (#1 in rushing attempts per game and #4 in rushing yards per game.)  Thats where I think Carolina can get them though.  While the Panthers run D was nothing special last year overall, at home the Panthers ranked #4 in the league in rush yards allowed per attempt and 5th in rushing yards allowed again at home.

And despite the much hyped pass rush, they were also 27th in the league in sack % meaning 26 other teams registered more sacks per QB drop back than Seattle.  Again another media myth.

We also know that Seattle struggles when away from the 12th man finishing the year with a 3-5 away record.  Out of those 5 away loses, only 1 team had a winning record.  They lost 1 to SF while losing to teams like Arizona, Rams, Miami, and Det.

I actually expect Carolina to win this one as long as they fix their running game which they have the talent to do (im a little suspect about that oline).  But I wouldn't read too much into it either way.  Seattle is a good team but they wont be the powerhouses that the media hypes them up as.  So if you do win, I wouldn't start screaming playoffs, just be happy with a solid, early season win against a pretty good team.
