Eric Winston wants 3-4 million..

Recommended Posts

It is not true, if he i June 1st:

2013: Saves $3.4M

2014: Dead money: $4.8M

Sorry, but no, your numbers are not correct. DWill's cap charge this year is $8.2 million. If we cut him June 1, his $9.6 million in unallocated bonus accelerates and must be absorbed over 2 years, however, it is not split evenly between the 2 years. We take a $3.2 million hit this year, and a $6.4 million hit next year. So instead of his scheduled $8.2 million charge, we are only on the hook for $3.2 million, for a savings of $5 million. Keep in mind his salary is not guaranteed so there is no liability there.

As for next year, the savings would be $2.8 million, and he would then be totally off the books.

Winston wants 3-4 million and I want wings......

There is a reason he is still unsigned and much of that is he wants too much money.  As the season gets closer a lot of guys will be happy to just be playing.

what he wants is well over market value. i think the dolphins are done overpaying people this year so he's pretty much out of luck. if he wants to play, he's going to have to come down in price.

Correct, I keep forgetting it is not 50/50.

However, I think it is importent to point out that we still have $6.4M in dead money in 2014. That fact that it is a "saving of $2.8M" over having him play is off the point as there is no scenario he is ever going to see that 2014 base salary.

I love DLo, he's one of my all time favorites but with contracts for Cam and Hardy, among others looming I'd settle for a bag of peanuts (salted) in trade just to move that contract off the books. I think we'd be fine with Poole and/or Barner.

Same here.  DWill has been a great Panther and a great team mate.  There is not disputing that.

But, with the salary cap, other needs on this team, and the other RB's we have....it just seems like the right move for this franchise to let him walk and invest that cap space in other areas.

The only way he leaves is if we let him walk. No team is going to accept his contract in a trade.

It's going to suck to see him go, but life always goes on. Letting go of the past has been our problem.

I agree that there will be no trade....contract is too much of an albatross

I would rather sign a RG for one year so kugzilla isn't starting and Hangman can be a backup center. Bell struggles but he is better than what we have beside him.

who we have at RG would be better if they had someone better at RT.

    • I don't know about you but I have been a life long Chiefs fan for the past 4 years.
    • Sure there's a ton of transplants in Colorado now. But as far as Denver in particular goes the Broncos have also been around for 65 years. Someone moving to Denver is going to be far more likely to become a fan of the Broncos and even attend games versus someone moving to Charlotte and the Panthers. Like I said it's not just one single thing with us it's multiple factors.
    • He's definitely getting better. It's fun to watch.  I've been getting killed for this take, but with the current state of college football, it just takes more time to develop a quarterback. I don't think it's a plug and play position anymore. I'm really not sure if it ever was. NFL offenses have always been substantially more complex than the college game, and the college game has simplified even more in recent years. Many college teams do not have a physical playbook anymore. That's just not the national football league.  Are there freaks who have success from day 1? Yes, without question. But so many of those guys are runners, and so many of those guys tail off. Is Bryce ever going to be Josh Allen? Probably not.  What I am seeing is a guy with complete command of the offense. He's checking into things at the line, making adjustments, and making timely throws.  He goes to David Moore a ton, because Moore is a consistent route runner. Bryce knows where he is and when he should be open. I think the guy with the "super processor" needs to be comfortable in the offense in order to do the "super processing." He doesn't have elite arm talent, and he is small of stature, but if he makes the smart play consistently, and he's willing to throw the ball downfield and not make mistakes, like he's starting to show, he's going to be a starter for a long time in this league, and it's not a position I'd spend draft capital right now.
