Eric Winston wants 3-4 million..

Recommended Posts

I was under the assumption that cutting D-Will regardless of June 1st designation would still cost us cap room this year due to excellerated payment of his contract.

We owe him

2013 base 4.75, bonus 3.2

2014 base 5.75, bonus 3.2

2015 base 6.75, bonus 3.2

If we June 1st split payment over 2013 and 2014 we still increase this years cap hit due to needing to pay off the bonus and the fact that his base salary was guaranteed. (I am no expert). Feel free to correct anything I messed up

DWill has no guaranteed money due. As to the bonus, it was paid when he signed his deal. It exists as a cap charge, but that's all.

Bottom line...we cut him June 1st and we shave $5 million off our cap charge for this year.

bell should be a back up.

I'd rather we got someone better on the outside. we do better by having the weak spot be between RT and C than we do having the weak spot on the end.

if we're going to have someone serviceable on the OL, I'd rather it be at guard than tackle.

there's nothing special about bell other than doing ok for being a udfa. nice story, but we need more.

We obviously would like to upgrade our RT position, you wanna get better players out there and Bell would be good depth. I just think Byron is better thany Piggy at their respective positions. A lot of it is how the line meshes together though, so i don't have a definitive statement.

I honestly don't put much stock into stats. Even with Cam. That's why I think Hixon was a pretty damn good signing. Dude makes plays.

But back to Bell. I know what I've seen and I've watched games multiple times.  Bell is average. He needs help on the right side to be that or a little better. He needs consistency with those around him. When he is asked to do too much he falls on his face. He is good for what he is, serviceable.  Plug in a consistent guard next to him and you will see better protection.

Cam's mobility keeps Bell from looking even worse than he is.  I agree the RG situation doesn't help Bell, but to be fair, Bell doesn't help the RG situation either.

I'm a big DWill fan, but if this is true, he's as good as gone and I would 100% agree with that decision.

For sure. Like i said to rayzor, I think Bell is better than Piggy at their respective positions, though. So based on this year, I think we would do better getting a guard then a tackle. Long term, they're both not the answer, obviously.

I don't know what happened to Piggy.  He was solid for us during his first stint here.  At least Bell has an excuse, he's a young player who was an undrafted free agent.  He was never supposed to be a starter.  Hell, he was never supposed to make an NFL roster.

I have little doubt that he's gone. Between him and Anderson, and the $5+ million in space we have currently, we can sign all our picks and have plenty left over should they like someone in FA.

DWill is a good player. Frankly, I'd rather have him than Stewart in spite of his age, but Stew's contract still has plenty of guaranteed money due so we really can't move him anytime soon. We will miss DWill's backfield blocking (which is better than Stew's in spite of what many here think), but if we used that money to get a nice upgrade at RG or RT, or maybe even another TE, I see it as a net gain for the team.

I remember Campbell looking OK in preseason, so maybe there's something to him.  He's awfully impressive physically.  We do have some talented players on the offensive line.  You just worry that the entire package isn't there yet.  We need to have a strong offensive line to compete with this schedule we're facing.

It is not true, if he i June 1st:

2013: Saves $3.4M

2014: Dead money: $4.8M

So yes, we can take the $3M and sign Winston. However, forget about long term signings as all the money needed to sign him next year is gone as dead money.

Still not a terrible idea, here is my reasoning:

Give Winston a $2-3M for one year. Play Kugbila at RG, he is a rookie so he will struggle but between Kalil and Winston he should do alright. Hangman and Bell is actually a very good back up combo.

In 2014 we hope the Kugbila have picked things up so that he and Bell can handle the right side (I know Bell is not really good enough but he is cheap so it might be good enough for the price if Kugbila turns out to be above average).

The main problem is that some posters have pointed out is that he does not fit our scheme.
