Shula proponent behind replacing zone read last season?

We should just stop arguing about the type of offense that Shula is going to run this season. None of us know........

Just gonna have to wait and see on the field.

Well based on what the FO says....it should look very similar to what we ran in about 28 of Cam's 32 games.

if it isn't then we were lied to.

they kept shula not because he was the most talented and cam with the most cred, he was hired because of his familiarity with cam and the playbook.

i would be surprised if they deviate from that playbook and scheme much at all.

The issue was that Hurney paid Jake too much hoping that 2009 was going to be the year we won it all after the 2008 season thinking the playoff game was an aberation instead of a harbinger  of the future. After 2010 he had to retain Williams and Johnson and way overpay to keep fans from abandoning ship given they were very popular players and the consensus was Richardson was cheap and didn't care about winning.

Signing Stewart to a big contract with all that guaranteed money was actually the bigger mistake given he didn't have to do it and he knew the cap would be flat which camme out well after Williams  was signed.. He compounded it by either not telling Rivera and Chud to run a more conventional offense and use what he had signed or had signed players that they were going to use. He didn't do either and was fired for it. Rightly so.

I am anxious to see what changes Shula does make in our offense.I am surprised that he does not get more coverage from both the media and the fans.

I think they are going to keep the read option, but also believe we are going to see a lot more traditional play action pass and power running than you will like.

“I think we’re going to try to keep all the good stuff,” Shula said, laughing. “There’s going to be a lot that’s going to look similar. But there’s going to be other things that we’ll continue to throw around in the offseason.”

I don't think it will be quite as zone read as we have seen in the last two seasons.

Trust me man I am a much bigger fan of DWill than Stewart even though they are both good backs. Once he decided to pay Deangelo the money he should have traded Stewart or at least not resigned him.  IF he was sold on Stewart being the guy he should not have paid Deangelo or traded him last year for anything that was offered. I'm just saying he needed to make a hard choice and stick with it. To me delaying the decision made it worse for everyone involved.

Got no issue lining up and running power formations....

But we aren't going back to have an offense that revolves around our RBs. It is about maximizing all Cam can do and using our RBs to aid him.

People are still too fixated on Double Trouble. 2008 was a half decade ago....what you saw them do on a field then isn't a realistic reality even if we wanted it

I think it will look like it did the 2nd half of last season. Which was similar to what it looked like Cam's rookie year. Cam looked very good under center so I think it will be more of a balance of that with our spread passing game and some read option. Chud also had Mike Martz syndrome at times which wasn't scheme but personality and playcalling.  I think it's ok if Shula is a little more conservative than Shula(not saying Foxball)because Cam has a natural big play ability and will improvise at times anyway. Smitty can take a curl for a big play and Deangelo can take a screen for a 60 yd score.

Chud's idea that you need 4 WR's going deep every play was almost as bad as the 50% read option bs. I am ready for a little less "genius" and just let our guys line up and punch them in the mouth and see who executes better.

Right. Outside of Smith and Cam, Deangelo and Stewart are our big play threats. But there are other ways to use them than just Power I. I hope we heavily emphasize screen passes this offseason. We had a few long TDs with them last year so I hope we get better at it.  I remember when Brett had Ahman Green and it was a staple of that offense. Plus with Defenses keying in on Cam and Steve it just makes sense. We gotta get our backs involved to take some weight off of Cam.

I actually think we are in agreement.

I believe we will be a much more balanced team. Shula realizes that Cam is a better passer than people give him credit for. He will hurt teams more from the picket this year.

But, a truly balanced offense where you have to worry about the power run game, Cam's running ability, and the play action pass is just nasty.

Teams won't know what hit them if they run this offense right.

We ran the ball 462 times in 2012 for 4.5 yards a carry.  In 2008 we ran the ball  504 times ( less than 3 times more per game) for 4.8 yards a game. In both cases we ran for over 2000 yards.  So honestly there isn't as big a difference in total yards or plays as the "we are a total passing league" want us to believe.  At least not as  far as our team goes. Then again people keep bringing New England up as an example of a total passing team yet they ran the ball over 500 times this year for in excess of 2000 yards.

You are right about one thing though.  We won't do what we did in 2008.  Not only are we running a completely different scheme but Jake only ran when he had to and that when he was being chased.  He would never  be confused for being a running quarterback.

Should also be noted

In 2008 RB/FBs had 475 carries

Vs

2012 RB/FBs had 320 carries

2011 RB/FBs had 304 carries

Situational playcalling IMO could greatly improve over anything. If Shula can do that better it will be HUGE IMO
