Shula proponent behind replacing zone read last season?

Cams attitude is greatly overblown. Lots of great QBs lose their poo when their team isn't holding up their end of the bargain.

What we need is for Cam not to carry us all game....then get into the 4th and force poo bc he knows there is no help and the gamble is all that makes sense.

Was Cam carrying us all game against Seattle when he threw that 4 yard Jeff "Cherry" Garcia dirt ball to a wide open Ben Hartsock in the endzone last year?

Williams - 6 carries, 6 yards

Stewart  - 4 carries, 16 yards

Steve Smith checked himself out of the game acting like a 3 yr old

.....so yeah, I'd say that was another game that was on Cam's shoulders, at least offensively.  Credit to the D for helping him that game but to beat really good teams you need more help on O.

Your Cam homerism has reached a new high.

Cam was 12-29 for 148 yards and a 56 QBR.  Hardly carrying anything on his shoulder that game.

The defense played lights out and the offense sucked....run game AND Cam.

Bottom line is that Cam had the opportunity to make a very simple play and didn't.

There was enough blame to go around on offense to everyone that day....they all looked like crap.

Shouldering the load doesn't mean you always have success.

AGAIN.

Williams - 6 rush yards

Stewart - 16 rush yards

Tolbert - 3 rush yards

Steve Smith was more worried about showing up and wrestling a CB than playing WR.

Cam was lucky to have a 56 QBR given the D played against the what the above players did.

now, should Cam of made that throw? Yes.  Is that why we lost the game? No....that one play doesn't win or lose you that game.  Just b/c it happens at the end people want to fixate on it.

Would be different if everyone on the team showed up to play....and Cam just missed a pass at the end.

Maybe the RB's could not run because Seattle was able to stack the box....because Cam could not hit the broad side of a barn that day.

See....I can make excuses too.

Fact is that the entire offense (including Cam) sucked that day.

Also.....who are you going to blame for Cam trhowing a 4 yard pass (to a wide open TE) into the dirt?

I'd be down with this if Cam wasn't shockingly bad the entire game.  He was clearly the main reason we lost that one.

Through seven 2012 games, Newton's TD-to-INT ratio stood at 5:8. He accounted for 19 all-purpose touchdowns and just four picks over the final nine games, and his rushing production actually improved as QBs coach Mike Shula helped install a more traditional, I-formation offense, replacing Rob Chudzinski's zone read. Shula is now the offensive coordinator. Question marks like the right side of the line, injury-prone Stewart, and No. 2 receiver won't matter if Cam plays like he's capable for a 16-game schedule.

Says Shula "helped" install a more traditional run game, I think Rivera was the one that decided we needed to get back to basics.

Maybe..but the RBs struggle to run all season. Whether it was early against Tampa or late against Oak. So that isn't a very good excuse IMO.

Peyton Manning would suck given that OL, no illusion of a rush and his main WR with his head up his rear.

Can missed that padss for the same reason he misses lots of short easy ones....he isn't very good at that yet

Agree.

Longer passes...cam throws in rhythm

Short passes...he is trying to aim them. Like throwing a dart.

It will come though. I have faith.

The biggest problem with this theory is that the zone read never went away last year.

I presented data several times during last season showing how much we used the read option the first part of the year, and how little we used it the last part of the year. So while it didn't go away entirely, it's use was very restricted as we got later into the season.

Do you remember the play before the throw in the dirt? The one to Murphy on the 1/2 yard line when Murphy couldn't reach out for the final couple of feet to get the TD? Had Murphy executed on that play, we all would have been talking about Cam's miraculous comeback win against the Hawks. Instead, he becomes the fall guy because he failed one play later. My only point? It's a team game. Cam didn't lose that game nor would he have won it if Murphy got in. We win or lose as a team.

Williams - 6 carries, 6 yards

Tolbert - 1 carry, 3 yards

Stewart - 4 carries, 16 yards

Cam - 7 carries, 42 yards. 6 yards a carry. Lead the team in rushing.....again. Not bc he he was run too much but bc the run game sucked.

RBs gave no illusion of a run, OL was horrific, and Newton threw to Steve Smith who wasn't even looking for the pass bc he predetermined he was going to go after the CB. How exactly does a QB perform well in that scenario?

Also, lets be real....Cam is in on the 1 yard line. What is the HORRIBLE play call? Name a game when Cam couldn't go forward a yard....yet they ask him to do the ONE thing that is weak about his game and not let him run for 1 freaking yard.... no one has stopped in that scenario. Gotta help Cam. offense didn't.....and with the game on the line the coaches didn't
