Shula proponent behind replacing zone read last season?

In Evan Silva's rundown of NFL rosters he mentioned that Shula was the one that integrated a more traditional running game the end of last season.  Not sure if it's speculation or not.  Silva is very knowledgeable, but I'm not sure if he's plugged in enough to have that kind of information.  It could easily just be someone mis-remembering something about an "unimportant" team

That being said, if true, it bodes well for the Offense.  I believe Cam will be much more effective in a traditional scheme, with improvised scrambles, and the OCCASIONAL zone read.  Hopefully that is the direction Shula is going.

Sounds like bull.

Chud comes from the Norv. They run. He ran in Clev. They ran in 11. They ran most of 12.

I don't think because of 4-5 games the QB coach suddenly became the OC and no one knew it.

Like all along, Chud probably told Shula we are now gonna do x, y, and z this week. Let me me know what you think. Shula probably said Cam probably is best at x, y, and a. Probably did the exact same when they went heavily zone read. Shula is the one coaching Cam so he communicates with the OC

I think that almost all the coaches except for Chud had enough of the zone read as the core of the offense.

I read somewhere that the biggest problem with Chud was that he didn't listen to the position coaches,

and maybe Rivera made him listen to Shula and the other offensive coaches at the end of the year.

While I am not a big fan of the read option as a primary staple of the offense, I think it is smart to keep it in because it keeps the D honest.  I did not see the activity during free agency or the draft in terms of building a powerful offensive line that would suggest we are abandoning the read option.

The biggest thing our offense needs is a QB who does not allow adversity to take his head out of the game.  I know that comment will annoy the huggers who post whenever he is seen at the mall or on a TV commercial, but it is an opinion shared by most experts.

Thanks for the input Peter King.

I've seen you post this a few times, in a few different threads, recently. Can you stop interjecting this opinion (and a bad one at that) into threads that aren't related to Cam's on field demeanor?  As much as you're bashing people for TMZ style posting about Cam, you seem to be going out of the way to espouse your contrived opinion about how Cam handles adversity.

It would really be nice to know what was going on in the coaches meetings and players meetings the first 7 or 8 games to hear what Chud and the rest of the coaches were saying about the offense. Would be very interesting.

I doubt Shula was "replacing zone read," but rather Rivera made sure Chud heard what Shula was saying because Cam had Shula's ear.  Who knows though.

Cams attitude is greatly overblown. Lots of great QBs lose their poo when their team isn't holding up their end of the bargain.

What we need is for Cam not to carry us all game....then get into the 4th and force poo bc he knows there is no help and the gamble is all that makes sense.

The biggest problem with this theory is that the zone read never went away last year.

correct.

Zone read was a staple in 2011.

We went a tad overboard for about 4 games to start 2012....and then it remained a staple to finish out the season.  Also, horrific G play and not having a healthy Stewart didn't help while trying to ramp up the zone read.

    • stats sort of tell partial truths though.  I mean, two RBs could average 5 yards a carry.  That alone doesn't mean they have run similar.   Those 3 offenses are vastly different on the year and what they ask of the QB.
    • I have never seen so many people who know absolutely nothing about football and high level QB play speak with such assured confidence while spewing absolute nonsense. I'm thankful as a PSL owner most fans who actually care enough to show up to BOA aren't that stupid (probably couldn't afford tickets otherwise) along with actual football people.  I try to think the best of people, but some of these threads have the intellectual discourse level of baboons flinging feces... Bryce is playing franchise QB level ball, and has been for weeks against playoff teams. Most of these haters are incels who will never admit being wrong about anything. If I never got laid I might harbor irrational hatred towards others also. But Jesus Christ what a miserable effing way to live... and we as a society have legitimized these people and encouraged them to be the loudest and dumbest versions of themselves... I'm thankful some of the people on this board still have triple digit IQs this holiday season
