Star/Short vs. Dareus/Cox/Brockers

Recommended Posts

if that was the case, Luke (Texas A&M)would have went before Eric(Central Michigan). even tho teams went on an OL run, several teams who had needs at DT still did not pick him, including a team that that drafted a DT right before the panthers. i am glad we got him, but he is not a better prospect then Dareus.

Tell Andy Reid that.

But I don't disagree with you.

I guess what fans like myself and others get wrong is that Dareus is the better DT. Star had the bigger hype. A good hype, not trashing him.

I personally like Star better than Dareus, but for Dareus to go as high as he did in the '11 draft, you have to mark him as a better prospect than Star, plus that '11 draft had way more talent. Just look at all the players Dareus went ahead of.

Question: At what weight do you think our coaching staff is gonna want Star to play NT at? I know Star is unusually strong, but 311lbs seems alittle light in the ass for NT.

At one point in Utha he played around 340lbs but I think his ideal weight is around 320lbs-325lbs

no way can i put star over marcel.if he was the better prospect he would have have went higher.

If Kaepernick were a better prospect than Gabbert he would have gone higher.  If Wilson were a better prospect than Tannehill he would have gone higher.  You can't even make those kinds of statements about guys in the same year, much less guys from different drafts.  If Aaron Rodgers were a better prospect than EJ Manuel, he would have gone higher.  Doesn't work that way.

I was very high on Dareus that year, he was my 2nd favorite prospect at #1 until the Cam train started (behind AJ Green) but I was higher on Star this year than I've ever been on any DT prospect, even higher than Suh.  Though that's just cuz I liked Star's game more, not because I necessarily thought he was going to be a better prospect...Suh was a once a generation type prospect.  I put Star a c-hair below that.

I already explained my disagreement with the first paragraph in the previous post.  To add to it, you also have to consider who is drafting.  It's not like the Bills are the paragon of excellent draft logic.  If I had been running the Bills I would have taken Green over Dareus.

Re: the question, I'd guess he trimmed down a bit in preparation for running the ridiculously over-valued 40.  If we were running a 3-4, 311 would definitely be considered underweight.  For a 4-3, as strong as he is, he could probably get away with 311 especially if they want him to be able to play longer and pursue better but I wouldn't be surprised if they work him up to about 320.

Colin was a better prospect then Gabbert, but the Jags seen something in Blaine that they thought they had to have. the knock on Wilson was his height, how many 5'11 QBs have been drafted in the 1st round.? Dareus has always played at a high level, compared to Star who has not.(yes i do realize he played on 92% of the defensive plays).

also Dareus was younger going into the draft then Star(they are both 23 years of age now, but one is entering year 3 and the other is a rookie), which is a plus. he also had better combine numbers which shows his athleticism. impact plays Dareus in 2 years had 11 sacks compared to Star's 7 sacks.

If you want to get technical, Star's and Marcell's numbers (two year period) were almost identical coming out of college.

Dareus: 67 tackles, 20 TFLs, 11 sacks, 0 FFs

Lotulelei: 86 tackles, 21 TFLs, 7 sacks, 4 FFs

Combine numbers don't mean squat but consider this, both Dareus and Lotulelei recorded similar workout stats too. Hell, Star was getting Dareus (and Ngata) comparisons. At the moment though, Starlite has yet to play a single down in the NFL so suggesting who's superior is premature.

Dude.... your sig is just mesmerizing.
