20+ minute long video detailing some stuff from the draft along with recycled content from previous videos.

Notes

  • Early in the video is the call that Star got from the team, but from the team's perspective. Rivera wants him to come in right away and contribute to a Super Bowl run.
  • Edmund Kugbila isn't expected to be an immediate starter but has the potential to be an impact player due to his size and potential.
  • Final two picks were based on quality.
  • AJ Klein should contribute immediately as a depth LB and on special teams.
  • Barner ran a sub 4.4 40yd dash with nearly 1,800 all purpose yards and 23 TDs in his senior season.
  • Gettleman says that Star is a great fit and Kawann in the 2nd was too good to pass up. Before the pick Gettleman would turn and speak with the whole room. He emphasized that one person cannot make the decision themselves and that everyone should be a part of the decision. Interesting quote:

The coaches have to feel, and I've learned this the hard way from teams that I've been with... that if you select players that the coaches really don't want, that they don't feel is a good fit, then it is a mistake.
  • 10min - 14min: scouting videos for some regional players. Included are USC RB Marcus Lattimore, App State RB Steven Miller, UNC DT Sylvester Williams, and NC State CB David Amerson.
  • Over 90% player participation during voluntary workouts.

Makes me wonder if this was the problem when the Panthers drafted Jimmy Clausen, Armanti Edwards, Eric Norwood and Tony Pike back in 2010. Something tells me Gettleman is a breath of fresh air for the scouting department to work with.

    • I just switched to prime video with fanduel south. Will I be able to watch the Canes playoff games still?
    • I mean, you can use that "logic," but the problem is that most practice squad players, backups or average guys don't put the play on film that Wharton did when given their opportunities.  Perhaps you'll end up right, but I don't think that just because a guy has been in a rotation makes him inherently less productive because he gets more snaps. I will say that the KC fans I've seen on social media loved him, and considered him their second best DT,  regardless of his "rotational" status, and generally considered him a dawg, so I'm going to give him the benefit of doubt until he shows otherwise.
    • Did I miss something?  The people we have developing players now are not the ones we've had in the past so I don't know what the heck people are talking about when they say we are not good at developing players right now.  We only have one year to go on.  Canales likes young players or players who are on an upward trajectory, especially in FA this year.  Past QB's and what he's done with Bryce are good examples. Tershawn Wharton - 26 Tre'von Moehrig - 25 Pat Jones II - 26 Bobby Brown III - 24 Michael Jackson - 28 Jaycee Horn - 25 Tommy Tremble - 24 We missed on Milton Williams but he's 26. Everyone else we picked up are on 1 year deals.  The Panthers new front office and Canales absolutely scream developmental team. Pick 8 (stay) Tier 1 Elite - Abdul Carter, Travis Hunter and Mason Graham Tier 2 Elite - Jalon Walker, Mykel Williams, Will Johnson Trade down: There are quite a few really good players that fit us at Edge, DT, S and WR mid to late 1st and high 2nd.  Some combos that would be possible that I really like.  Imagine getting 2 of these guys by trading down. Stark, Pierce Jr, Golden, Scourton, Grant, Emmanwori, Ezeiruaku, Umanmielen, Deone Walker, Harmon and this is just off the top of my head.
