teams weren't offering much for williams

Recommended Posts

when people say he has a lot of mileage, they aren't just referring to his NFL career...

lol...

Ok... He still did it vs an NFL defense. If you think that we're better off without D-will this season then you're not that smart. Once we actually gave him the ball last year( besides that read option weak sh*t), he shined.

Yes, if Stewart missed games....we would have more than enough talent to run the ball.

answer: You can't label him a June 1 cut and go out today and use that cap space....it doesn't exist yet

Actually you can. You were allowed to cut 2 players and label them June 1 cuts.

Who Poole? The Rook? NO WAY!!! I haven't seen one play that would give me indications that we are perfectly fine if J Stew goes down and we cut Williams.

something to chew on.

williams's 2008 season is the only thing that really separates stewart's and williams's overall career stats.

williams - 2008 = 80 games, 896 attempts for 4269 yards, 4.8 ypc, 25 tds

stewart = 71 games, 818 attempts for 3836 yards, 4.7 ypc, 27tds

a "breakout" season is the only difference between the two.

Iamhubby...where was Stewart the year prior?

He was the guy playing a higher percentage of snaps than any RB in our division. He played in all of our games and became Rivera's favorite RB....which lead to Williams losing his starter in name only title in 2012.

Yes Stewart finally missed real time in 2012....but he still with that has played in more games than Williams since Double Trouble was formed

Also, can you please quote people and not reply inside the quote....it makes talking to you difficult

you cant forget the money because it's the driving factor in this whole thing. it's their contracts that make them a necessity to move and it's their contracts that keep this team from getting better.

and again, their production can easily be replaced by much cheaper alternatives. depth isn't an issue for me because that depth can easily be replaced as well.

why didn't we unload williams? first, we hadn't drafted barner yet. two, his contract hurts us if he stays or if he goes. we have to find out what we have before we move and we have to see if it would be worth it to take the cap hit now or a lesser one later. lot's of stuff to consider, but i wouldn't buy that idea that since we haven't moved him yet doesn't mean that we aren't going to or don't have plans to because he's only getting older and more expensive. he just isn't worth keeping around.

I don't think Barner will be anywhere near a good as D'Will.

The one part I do agree either way it hurts. I believe we keep him for 2013 and let him go next year. Maybe he has a good year and we actually get some value out of him. For years we ranted and raved about Double Trouble not wearing our running backs out. So the "Age" or "Wear and Tear" don't cut it with me.

Running back as I have said 3 or 4 times is not a plug and play position. While Barner might be a good replacement in a year or so. I don't see it now.

first off, and I'm not just singling one person out because far too many seem to have this issue, but we all have to get better at learning how to click outside of the quotation box...

DWill has received roughly 12 touches a game (anyone may feel free to find the actual number, but it's not far off)..  if this "home run" threat discussion had any merit, the coaches would NEVER let that happen.

He doesn't take the ball to the house any given play...   enough said.

lol..  the worst defense in NFL history?  keep on keepin on bruh...  re-read this thread and then re-analyze who isn't all too smart...

Yes you get 2 June 1 cuts....but again, that cap room to sign someone isn't avalaible NOW if you did.

Tolbert has proven he can step in and be a fine injury replacement RB. He can certainly step up a be part of a measly 3 prong attack if Stewart got hurt with Cam and a cheap RB who actually fits our current scheme

First. If Stewy is so good. How come he can't hold onto that starters job? Oh yeah, he hurts. If Stewy were healthy for a full year, then I may side with you. Unfortunately, he has never been healthy for a full year. Playing hurt, though admirable, does not automatically make him better. Tough, sure, better, not so much.

When Stewy can play healthy, and provide that homerun threat. Then I will call him a feature back. As it stands, Stewy is a complimentary piece of the puzzle.

I use the quote button. This is what I get to work with. I see others are having the same trouble I am. Before the upgrade, my enter bar didn't work. So this is at least preferable to me.

Exactly. If Gettleman wanted that money from his contract to sign someone he could have done it months ago. Makes no sense to do it now. Gettleman doesn't seem to be one to change his mind in midstream. Unless he comes up with a trade with some unique wording I seriously doubt we are going to cut him.

I will stick to my guns. He'll be a Panther in 2013.

You can't spend that money til after June 1st. Wether he was cut a month ago or on that date.

FIFY...

just move your direction arrows down until you're outside of the quotation box...  it works every time.

as far as you're rationale..  well, the reason you suffice to say you are good with messing up every quote may be why you are completely ignoring the fact that DWill isn't a homerun threat but seem to think that's the only reason he should stay on the team..

can't really argue either point...

    • Some of you who are not sold on Canales are insane. His main purpose was to turn around Bryce Young’s career and he did that. Of all of the teams in the top 10 of the NFL draft, we were the team that was consistently showing the most fight week in and week out. Our players never quit on the season. The offense which he is responsible for took a huge step forward compared to last year, despite the lack of skill talent  that we have. It was our defense that was a mess. That’s one of my critiques on Canales. He should’ve gotten rid of Evero and hired his own DC that shares the same vision. But as a whole, I can’t see how people are not pleased with what Canales did with this team. I’d give him an 9/10
    • One of the first thoughts after the game yesterday was that JT was going to jump all over it. He's been more favorable about BY from the beginning, and so yesterday must've felt like Christmas.
    • Maybe, but they were always going to be an impossible team to accurately mocked right now. They have an absurd amount of cap room, what they need right now will not be what they need come draft day.  They can make multiple big splash signings and even make trades for players who need new contracts and their teams don't want to give it to them. OT and WR might be their two biggest needs right now, but it wouldn't be unreasonable to think they could go into the draft needing neither of them.  I think a LT will be their top FA priority, also think they're going to make a big offer to Higgins, and I could see them being a team in the running to trade for someone like DK Metcalf as they need a WR like him and they have the cap space to give him a big new contract.
