teams weren't offering much for williams

Recommended Posts

Williams is second player in NFL history to 5000 ydswith less than 1000 carries. His abilities have not diminished. The only thing that diminished was Chudinksi brain cells on our offense. Williams and Stewart are important parts of a power offense. Shula will show why we are keeping him in 2013. I give it less than 25% chance he is not a Panther next season.

I guess what amazes me the most is how quickly our fan base will dump a GOOD player. How many players has this forum given up on any yet they were still productive. Hardly anyone wants to believe that his production drop off was more a Offensive coordinator game plan then ability.

Williams will be productive and I hope we retain him for the duration of his career.

let's not make this out to be more than what it really is.

it's about dumping an overpriced and easily replaceable (in regards to production) player to make room for better players at different positions that are more important to the overall success of the team.

do you want the team to be better and be given the best chance possible or do you want certain players to be more respected? unfortunately, when you are bound by the cap and mismanaged so poorly and the the team is unbalanced contractually the way it is, it really becomes that simple.

can this team be better with so much money going to one position than it  be if we had the cap space to spend on other positions, and before you comment about the talent level players that could be added if we weren't shackled  by his contract not equaling the level of talent that williams brings, I'll remind you of the buyers market that we are in and will be in for the next couple years. we could have paid for two or three quality players at positions that are thin for us rather than throwing that much money at a position we are overloaded with talent at.

it doesn't matter if it was William's fault or not he got that contract and it doesn't really matter how much he has left in the tank, the value just isn't there. he just isn't worth the money and cap space he's getting and the team would be better off using the money slated for him on other positions.

when people say he has a lot of mileage, they aren't just referring to his NFL career...

lol...

over 6,000 rushing yards while in college, and if you don't think it's a big deal...that's fourth all time in ncaa. that's a poo ton of yardage on this guy. it's no wonder he breaks down so frequently.

A lot of Huddlers have fell in love with Stew over D Willn in large bc of D Will's contract, although Stew isn't playing for free either. D Will has been our most reliable back over the years. He's the most healthy and duriable out of the two. Stew hasn't played a full year since being a Panther and probably has participated inless camps than any Panther. We need to cut one of them, I'm just not in favor of cutting a durable) that hardly ever fumbles. Thanks Hurney...

Really!? DLo has missed more games than Stewie. Stewart was hurt a lot and hardly practiced, but NEVER missed a lot of games. I think its like 2-3 games before last year. I don't know how you came up with that.

Forget the money because I agree we have too much tied into RB. Thanks to Hurney.

So everyone is OK with our depth at RB if Stewart goes down? How easily we forget 2005. It cost a chance at going back to the Super Bowl.

RB is not a plug and play position. You have poor RBs and good ones.

Poole, Smith or any other RB on this squad couldn't carry D'Will jock. I am not!!!

Humor me. We release him June 1. How much are we going to have after we pay 1/2 of what is left of his signing bonus? Had we really saved that much money.

Answer this. Why didn't we Label him a June 1 cut and get a "Big Name Free Agent" if there was going to be a lot of extra money available. Because there isn't going to be a nice wad to use on anything other than what we have already used it on. Mid-ranged free agents who want to compete for a job.

Since he was drafted, Stewart has played in 71 games.

during that same window, Williams has played in less games. So this whole " we got keep the uber expensive RB bc he is more reliable than Stewart"....isn't really true.

he's hardly durable more durable.

and thanks to their contracts i want both guys replaced. their production can be replaced easily by much cheaper alternatives.

Yes, if Stewart missed games....we would have more than enough talent to run the ball.

answer: You can't label him a June 1 cut and go out today and use that cap space....it doesn't exist yet

you cant forget the money because it's the driving factor in this whole thing. it's their contracts that make them a necessity to move and it's their contracts that keep this team from getting better.

and again, their production can easily be replaced by much cheaper alternatives. depth isn't an issue for me because that depth can easily be replaced as well.

why didn't we unload williams? first, we hadn't drafted barner yet. two, his contract hurts us if he stays or if he goes. we have to find out what we have before we move and we have to see if it would be worth it to take the cap hit now or a lesser one later. lot's of stuff to consider, but i wouldn't buy that idea that since we haven't moved him yet doesn't mean that we aren't going to or don't have plans to because he's only getting older and more expensive. he just isn't worth keeping around.

From my memory, not to say that I'm not wrong but I will look it up.

OK, I looked it up and I was wrong on the amount of games missed. From 2008 - 2012: D Will missed 13 games to Stew's 9. However, D Will Rushed for 4, 486 yards to Stew's 3756 and D Will Fumbled only 4 times to Stew's 12. D Will does have only 756 Receiving Yards to Stew's 856. I'd hate to lose either one but thanks to Hurney, we will. I do think that Stew may be better suited for our offense, or at least last years offense. Well until the end of the season, our offense fitted D Will's style more than Stew.

Sucks that when talking about DeAngelo we have to listen to a bunch of cap bs, discussions about how he's old, speculation that the team doesn't need him, and how we need to clear his contract money. Dude has been a great team player and hasn't shown the ability drop off and obviously plays his heart out. I choose to let the chips fall where they may, but it would be nice to see him retire a panther with his head held high. Quality player.

No.  Not if it hurts the team. Believe me neither my nor your boss would shed a tear if they thought they could get a younger worker to do our job at  1/4 the price -  thats the sort of sentiment that got us where we are today - in the leagues basement.  If hes willing to take a major pay cut then maybe something should be worked out - otherwise adios same goes for J Beason.
