hipsters are "dufuses" aren't they?  as for your quoting, it'll come along.  just try to avoid the myrtle beach strip clubs, and adding what I assume was your mug shot taken that night as an avatar.

FWIW: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S1lI5USEDaY

First play: 2nd and 4 [1st Q]

Bears playing double tights, Marshall out right.

Seems to me we are playing 1 deep zone [naka is about 75 yards back], since godfrey[i think] is coming in off a poorly disguised blitz off the "weak" side. Mike/Sam/Will do a good job of getting back and sitting into their hook zones. I dont like that Norman is off the ball that much on the other side, but usually the slant wont be to the back side if you are in double tights and the Will is obviously going to sit, as well as the possibility of Godfrey to sell out, with Naka rolling coverage towards Marshall.

The problem, which cutler and everyone else on the planet knows, is you have captain Munnerlyn [5'8'' with cleats on] one-on-one against the billboard that is Brandon Marshall. Capt immediately looks for cutlers eyes, gives Brandon Marshall no bump even though he is lined up tight, and cutler creams his pants and makes this throw likely with his eyes closed. jimmy clausen couldve done this.

Second play @0:19: 1st and 10 [1st Q]

Double tights again under center. We have 1 deep again with Godfrey coming off the edge again

Our CB's are playing 6 yards off [first down, w/e] with Nakamura of course playing back in section 543. Keuchly didnt' get back quick enough, and with Norman giving Marshall inside leverage coupled with Naka way back, the post is another easy pick up.

Overall, this play was just the wrong call at the wrong time.

Play @1:05 1st and 10 [4th Q]

Bears run strong I formation, we stack the strong side of the field.

Marshall is out there all alone with the rookie Norman giving proper cushion, but of course naka starts out way out of frame[common occurance].

Our linebackers freeze on the play action and Naka apparently thinks its a hail mary play because there is no excuse for the separation between him and Norman when Marshall catches the ball, even if it was a comeback route.

Play @1:39 3rd and 8 [4th Q]

Bears run a 5 receiver set, naturally we have 2 deep.

Specifically we are running a tampa 2 right here as you can see Keek digs deeper in his zone. This allowed the bears to clear out the outsides and allow Marshall to be matched up against TD with a "hole" route. Basically he decides to go outside or inside based on where the hole is. Easy throw and catch.

Basically this is the defense we should have been running in the other plays, and vice versa.

Then the painful part:

basically from 2:11-on we run a basic cover 2 bend but dont break. The problem with this is that cover 2 usually tries to get the CB's to physically engage and re route the WR with the confidence that the safety will not let anyone get behind him. The problem with that is they only needed a field goal, but our safetys sat. Anyone whos ever played the WR will tell you about the gap that the cover 2 creates, this is easily exploitable mostly on fly routes. Since we were 7 yards off, its more of the throw and catch you saw earlier...

I know ive been over this before, just wanted to get more in depth. Yes we had rookie players and an idiot[naka] back there. but the playcalling is suspect to say the least, and the evolution[learning] throughout the game was even more suspect. I dont see how you can even expect that not to happen if you dont roll tight coverage to the billboards side and make the #2 take the heat.

Ive been drinking heavily since its exam week and for some reason wanted to go back and look at the utter failure that was our Defense vs Brandon Marshall. Notice that these are quick catch and throw plays except for one, so DLine inability isnt really a factor.

As a former college student who drank heavily, had a small attention span, little drive other than to get laid but yet high grades, I have a new-found respect for you.  I salute you sir.

The one thing that stood out to me most was the play calling/coaching.  I know we like to kid but does anyone really think Nakamura lined up so far back on his own free will?  He more than likely was told to be back there because the coaches knew the limitations of the guys in front of him.  Problem is this is a bad way to coach.  Coaching not to lose rather than to win, not relying on the guys you have on the field.

Bruce Arians took the Colts to the playoffs with a far less talented team than the one we have had the last two seasons.  What's the difference?  I feel like it has to come down to coaching.  Look at the Chiefs, they have a ton of talent, and they couldn't do anything last year.  Their coach gets canned.  We have a ton of talent (QB, RB, DE's, Linebackers) and we can't get things done but we keep Rivera around.  I'm sorry but he is not the answer.  I think it was a mistake keeping him around and until he shows me differently I will continue to feel that way.

Kurb mentioned something the other day on twitter about Cam having "show me" seasons coming up.  I agree with him but ultimately we just want this team to win.  Nothing that Cam, the secondary, or anyone else can do is win at this point.  Anything else is inexcusable. And if we don't win the blame will start to fall pretty quickly.  It will hit Cam but something tells me that it should be focused on the coaching staff.  Good coaches with great QB's are almost always in the playoffs/playoff hunt, that tells me we don't have a good coach bc Cam is a great QB even with all his flaws.

You give Cam to john fox and we are in the playoffs the last two years.  Just sayin.

End Rant.

Great analysis, you had some time I see. I was watching the video and a) wondered why aren't there highlight edits of pure action/downs (all of them a game)? b ) got frustrated at our cb's for the most part. cutler-->bmar is gonna be great but if only we had a pick-machine at CB. For the amount that our division throws..

edit: also, i think gucci mane is the one whom i've given more pie to than anyone. idk how much of that is subconsciously due to his name.

Naka playing 75 yrds deep is an Ed Reed thang..cept Reed can make a play in front of him with speed and play recognition.

There is this myth of NFL players "mentoring" other guys at his position. Smitty is not going to groom his replacement, ED Reed is not going to help Naka get his techinque better and explain what he does..naka just played how he thought Reed would..and has no speed, play recognition, or ability to make a play in the air.

Who the hell is Creep59? Grits atleast knew how to quote.

Good write up GM. Personally I'm not going to dwell on the past though.

Rivera's performance as a HC will determine how far we go this year. I didn't care for his hands off approach to the offense and standing by while Chud poo the bed. It shouldn't have taken Hurney being fired to wake him up.

give cam john fox and he's on the bench unless upper management forces him to play him

i can't be the only person who remembers fox on NFL network in 2011.  he's on record that he thought the panthers would select dareus.

Norman got smoked like a pack of cools! smh...hope he play tighter this year. i think he has the speed but for his size he needs to be in the WR's face!

yea rookie mistakes...he wanted so bad not to get burnt that he played conservative. Naka playing 25 yards behind that is where the holes open up.

    • Cam is the GOAT dual threat, but we've never been able to have back to back seasons with winning records despite the late season surge winning streaks, my favorite being the year we won the south in the 2nd half of the season. But winning 2 games late in the year against bad teams doesn't establish a "winning culture"  If they beat the Falcons bucs once, competitive against the chiefs and eagles i will have no problem with wins then because it's against legitimate competition but beating the giants and saints just to feel good, hard pass.
