I believe that Gettleman saw development in the young guys on our roster last season.  I expect we will go into camp with what we have and let the true evaluation occur then.  If he is happy with what he sees with the young guys development, we will go into the season with them.  He could very easily add a vet guy i fhe does not like what he sees.

i'm presuming you mean mini camp, etc. we should see enough to know well before TC if we need more brought in.

in fact that should be the case with all positions. we should have everything worked out except maybe depth positions on the roster by training camp.

yeah, you can have CB, S, LB...crap, you could even drop a DE back into coverage and call him the nickel. it's just a extra person you drop back into coverage to give you 5 in coverage rather than 4 to cover additional receivers.

we've used LBs quite a bit over the years in nickel packages and we aren't rare in that.

Have I told you I love you Ray? No homo.

Jk, one of the best poster one here!

Here is the bottom line.

1. With the cap hell that Hurney left, we were and still are very limited with what could happen in FA

2. Without a 3rd round pick, the first two picks were really the only place we were going to draft someone better than the young guys we currently have in the seconday....another 5th-6th round guy would not upgrade what we have.

3. With the way that the draft fell, Star and KK were absolutely the BPA and fit a HUGE need

4. A nasty pass rush will help our secondary significantly more than adding another late round guy to the mix

I for one am waiting to see how this unit performs on the field before making any judgements.

Thank you. Someone gets it.

Their opponents had a 56 completion %, 3100 yards, 16 TDs, and 24 INTs. Pretty sure you're confusing the years.

They also were 2nd in sacks that year. The following season they were tied with four other teams at 27th with 29. So somewhere between 27th and 30th was where their pass rush ranked that year.

But herp derp Charles Woodson!

I hate to bring this back up, but I'm sure I'll remember several times throughout the season how we passed on Jamar Taylor and DJ Swearinger in the second.  Both could have been instant difference-makers in our secondary.

same with short, in fact the difference he can make long term is probably going to be bigger than what either one of those guys would be making.

getting to the passer quickly effects the secondary in better ways than picking up one coverage guy...and that's exactly what short does, get to the passer. within a year i think he'll be better than  dwan was last year. having a rotation of dwan and short is going to do wonders to the pass D, esp. when you consider that they are going to be working beside star who will be eating up 2 or 3 blockers on most downs. it just opens things up for all of our pass rushers...CJ, hardy, alexander, dwan, and short...and it shuts down or limits options for QBs helping out the coverage guys.

QBs are going to have to get rid of the ball quickly, and i mean within 2-3 seconds on every down. i think it will be easier to press them at the line because QBs won't have time to let deep plays develop.

Maybe...he also had too many areas to address...so he had no choice to ignore some needs he would have liked to address.

first off my 22 month old son has a better insite to the opening day roster than Joe Person. I doubt Florence is the guy, he was more than likely brought in as a veteran pressance to aid the younger guys. He may start but I hope its one of our other guys. If Drayton is a starting CB for this team, then someone on the roster isnt learning fast enough.

Those 24 INT's were everything to that defense...everything

Nope not confusing years...

Then you're just wrong. They weren't even close to the worst defense that season. 5th in yards, 4th in completion %, 4th in TDs, 2nd in INTs. How is that one of the worst pass defenses ever?

Naka's back-peddling 3 inch leap of glory still haunts me but the inability for the coaches to adapt reminds me of ineptitude. Rivera couldn't change up when the play calling is obvious like it was at the end of the Bears game and it reveals a stubborn ignorance that might retain Nakamura at SS. I've lost confidence in Rivera and need to see smarter decisions before I believe he is wiser than a novice high school coach.

GB gave up 215 yards per game in 2010 thru the air

Not to shabby. Not going to say our D cant hold opponents to 215 yards per game in the pass game though. In total D GB was only 28th though, we had a better over all D than the SB Champions at 15th

I would have to think screens/dinks and dunks wont gain much yardage against the D this year so QB's are going to be forced to get their real yardage throwing down field.

If the D has a good enough pass rush getting intermediate routes to open up down field might not be so easy.

Where are you getting these stats because NFL.com has them giving up 194 per game and 5th in total yards.

I'm telling y'all Naka isn't making this team.

Why the hell you want DJ at Strong?? I can see FS but not SS. I guess they may want to use him like a nickle SS? Sort of like his Vaccaro was at Texas??

hell i figured you loved and blew the entire team? don't leave naka out
