Gettlemen led us to believe we would draft 2 immediate starters

This team did a complete 180 after Hurney was fired. Rivera tweaked the frontlines to his liking, which helped tremendously. But the obvious statement is the team was clearly mismanaged under Hurney. After 1 of the worst half seasons I may have ever seen, we were able to finish 2nd in the nfc south(1 of the toughest divisions in the nfl), 12th overall offense, and 10th overall defense. It seems to me that Rivera salvaged all he could from last years horrible start. Hell, we might have finished top ten offense if not for the opener against the Bucs with our 6yds of rushing. Point being that, with a real coach and manager the possibilities for last year could have been limitless? But this year I feel we are only getting better. In fact, I'll go as far to say that we are not playing out a schedule this year! We are going on tour!

I think both should have been fired at the end of the season. My point is people here think the team is more talented than it really is. Roughly 90% of the team is still here from the 2-14 season.

People scream we have playmakers and the first names they list ate always Deangelo, Stew, and Tolbert. Then the same folks turn around and say we have too many backs and wand Dwill gone.

My bottom line is this, after drafting Star there are definitely other holes that should have been plugged before drafting another DT. We only had 5 picks. Before the draft people here jokingly suggested we would draft a lb and rb then when it happens they try to rationalize it. Kenjon will never be as good as Dwill and AJ will never be Beason period.

bottom line is ya never reach, and stay with BPA.

reaching for a need us how ya get more busts.

I would prefer that Short not start day 1 unless he truly is the best guy out there. Most defensive line rookies need time to learn better hand and foot technique. Even Star will likely struggle more than people might think. He could just run over guys in college and he won't do that in the NFL. He is a big man but holding back 600 lbs of NFL offensive linemen who know what they are doing will be a much bigger challenge than he has had in college.

agreed. i think that we'd be fine with star starting beside dwan and that star is about as ready as keek and cam were for the starting gig. putting two rookies side by side on the DL as starters would be a mistake. rookies need experience beside them.

You gave me a shiver when I remember the last time we started 2 rookies at DT in McClain and Fua.   They were individually bad and collectively awful. I would think Star and Kawaan would  be a better duo but they still need lots of work to be ready for  the season.

IMO, there is a huge difference between this years version vs 2 years ago. First. We are talking a 1st and 2nd rounder vs 2 3rd rounders. Also, this year we got, arguable, the best player at their position. Where as McClain and Fua were lucky to be top ten. We got two studs compared to two duds.

There was two very big reasons why our pass rush was lacking down the stretch. The main one being fatigue. The other would be other teams doing more max protecting. Star and Short will provide the necessary depth to alleviate the first. And have the talent to negate the second.

We are going to be good all game. Not just the first three quarters.

Agree. Short was a player who was projected as the 2nd or 3rd best DT. Floyd just all of a sudden rised his stock with the help of the media. Short is probably a better interior penetrator than Floyd.

The only reason why Short's stock dropped was bc people questioned his motor. The difference between Short and Floyd is that Floyd played at UF with talented players around him. Short didn't, that's why he was having to play 99% of the plays at Purdue.

Aint no probably,,,you are spitting straight truth/hotfire with that statement.

I don't think it's unreasonable to think Short might be starting by seasons end.  Dwan's 6 sacks and stuff were nice and all, but I think he graded pretty low overall as a DT.  Either way, both of them are better than Sione fuging Fua.

No he did not say staters, he said players who can start. There is a difference, and what he meant was players who can come in and play right away and contribute. But claiming a starter before camp and what not is pretty unlikley. Our second rounder will be given time to play and time to learn, I doubt he starts, but he can still contribute and play right away. Other picks you might see less of.
