Gettlemen led us to believe we would draft 2 immediate starters

If this team is so talented why was Hurney fired and not Rivera? Questions that make you go hmmmm

I don't think anyone hear is arguing the Panthers are "SO" talented, and if you don't believe Hurney needed to go, than you need an evaluation.

Rivera arguably deserved to be fired too but G-man decided to keep him and I trust his decision.

Gotcha, I thought you are saying the 44th is basically a 1st rounder.

Yes, he is very talented. I am pleased with his pick.

Agree. Short was a player who was projected as the 2nd or 3rd best DT. Floyd just all of a sudden rised his stock with the help of the media. Short is probably a better interior penetrator than Floyd.

The only reason why Short's stock dropped was bc people questioned his motor. The difference between Short and Floyd is that Floyd played at UF with talented players around him. Short didn't, that's why he was having to play 99% of the plays at Purdue.

I think both should have been fired at the end of the season. My point is people here think the team is more talented than it really is. Roughly 90% of the team is still here from the 2-14 season.

People scream we have playmakers and the first names they list ate always Deangelo, Stew, and Tolbert. Then the same folks turn around and say we have too many backs and wand Dwill gone.

My bottom line is this, after drafting Star there are definitely other holes that should have been plugged before drafting another DT. We only had 5 picks. Before the draft people here jokingly suggested we would draft a lb and rb then when it happens they try to rationalize it. Kenjon will never be as good as Dwill and AJ will never be Beason period.

I'm one who isn't concerned with the talent on the roster. The 2-14 had a lot more to do with Fox no caring than it did the players.

We we're 5-6 plays from the playoffs last season and most people think we underacheived- to me that is proof that we have the talent to be better than we are and it points at the coaching/playcalling as a culprit for failure.

Roughly 70% our our roster is the same from 12-4 too.

agreed. the problem was fox, but i would add a loss of leadership and experience on the team and relying on jimmy clausen at QB.

for the most part, tho, the talent was there, just line it was when we went to the playoffs a couple years earlier. there were nust as many remaining players or more from the playoff run to the clausen year as there was from the clausen year to now.

First, Star fell into our laps unexpectedly. Then, Nuk was drafted, followed shortly by Patterson. Cyprien was gone at the top of round 2. Sure we could have picked Swearinger or Allen, but offseason pick-ups (in theory) put us in a position to draft the BPA. G-man decided that KK was the BPA at 44.  Our four other remaining picks were made to add depth.  Barner adds depth at RB, and AJ adds solid depth at LB. At least give the rookies a chance to show what they got before claiming their potential impact upon the team.

A football team is not a static proposition, it's continually evolving.  Kenjon was not drafted to be D-Will, and AJ wasn't drafted to be Beason. The thing is though, one day you may look up and they may be starters, or, at the very least, playing key roles on the team. With our cap situation vs the value that we are getting from some within our RB and LB corps, along with the injury history at each position, you can't take anything for granted.

G-man seems to have a more practical-minded philosophy as to team building is all. You may not agree with it, but it makes sense on many levels.
