Can you really blame analysts giving our draft so so grades?

The first 2 picks are outstanding then, based on the names left i am a litle disapointed.

Using a 4th on a grade 52 is a luxury.

Or Gettleman is a genius.

That 52 grade was made by people that did little to no evaluation on Kugbila.  Most focused the vast majority of their time on players from big and mid-sized schools.  If you look, very few even have a writeup on him, so I wouldn't, in any way, take their ranking as gospel.  Their just giving him a generic grade based on his level of competition, not on actual study of his pros and cons.

One thing very few think about when grading the draft (even Huddlers) is player development in perceived need areas.  For example, many think we need a corner and downgraded us because we didn't address it in the draft.  But do we really need one?  The coaching staff saw these guys in practice, watched game tape, interacted with them in meetings, etc., so I'm sure they have an idea about whether or not they can and to what degree they should develop.  The thing with young guys is that it is all about projecting what they can and should be...whether it is looking at a rookie (no matter what round) or a guy that's only been in the league one or two years.  So just because you didn't like something about their game last year doesn't mean that the coaches don't recognize more about their game than we can see in that small box on Sunday. 

 

So, if the coaches and GM feel we are good enough in those perceived need areas that we don't have to focus on them, then we have no choice but to trust them (at least until there is enough history to prove otherwse).  After all, they have a better idea of the players than any fan or analyst that has very limited access to information.

      I'm seeing Walker in many, if not MOST, of the more recent mocks for the Panthers.  Here's my problem, He's not a tackling machine and that's what you want out of an ILB.  He's a 'tweener.  Are we playing him inside or outside?  Sack production is 'meh' for the outside, not so much a QB terror  and inside he's not a ball hound.   This is culminating to be a typical Panthers pick.  You see how 'tweeners end up here with the mismanagement of Jeremy Chinn.

      Yes, this same logic could also be used for every player on our roster and practice squad. I wouldn't include basically any of them in the "potential core player" category as I basically outlined it. I don't see him that way because he was a rotational player and I am not sure he will be more than that here.  If I am wrong and he really flourishes here, great. That contract will make a lot more sense and I will have more faith in Dan & Co.
