CREDIBILITY WATCH: David Gettleman

Recommended Posts

so his credibility is on the line today?

so what, if he doesn't trade for some player (read that as OVERPAY), then his credibility takes a hit?

lol

does "OVERPAY" include giving up a 2nd for Josh Gordon? How about the "12 pack of Coke and athletic tape" for Kenny Britt, or the comparative peanuts for Washington's franchise-tag player in 2012, Fred Davis? I don't think so, but perhaps chemistry is a concern, the latter two being test-run rentals.

These are really rhetorical in nature.

Riverboat Ron and Gambling Gettleman. That has a fairly good ring to it.

I've said since day one that it would take gettle about three years to get this team where he wants it to be.

Considering how far he's taken us in year one....well, it's a great time to be a panthers fan.

This year he had to start with negative 17 million in cap and somehow turned that into 13.5 mil in cap space. He turned out biggest weakness (run defense) into one of our biggest strengths. He put together a budget secondary that has gotten the job done as well as added a few special players at needed positions.

I absolutely cannot wait to see how he bolsters up our oline and gives cam weapons over the next few years. If ther was a grade higher than an A+, he would deserve it.

Another nice unheralded pickup was Colin Cole. He's given us some good snaps spelling Star, and has pressured the QB a few times, something I've never seen Fua do in 3 years.

So, to recap, once again, all of gettleman's positive additions:

Star

Short

Mikell

Mitchell

Blackburn

Ginn

White

Lester

Wharton

Cole

And some solid developmental players in Klein, Barner, Wes Horton, McNutterButter and now Tavarres King.

+ he got us a draft pick for beason, who seemed all but done at the time of the trade.

And all of this while fixing our dreaded cap situation.

Pretty solid first effort, eh?
