Anyone catch Smitty this afternoon?

He said Cam would need to make more plays happen from the pocket with his arm (not with his legs) to have longterm success in the NFL, and he's right.

Cam already makes plays from the pocket, never is in a hurry to bail, and if anything gets caught staying too long in the pocket...and is off to historic pace for passing yards.

He needs to improve his passing. I don't get "more"

1. You don't know what Shula is going to run

2. Your evaluation of Shula as an OC was from over a decade ago...with a team that he took to the playoffs with the likes of Shaun King at the helm

I have no idea whether Shula will be a great OC....but continuing to bash the guy with ZERO to support it is laughable as well.

Case in point:

After the 1997 season, Bruce Arians was fired after his one and only season as Bama's offensive coordinator.

Last year, Bruce Arians was the Associated Press NFL Coach of the Year.

I couldn't be happier with the first 3 picks going to the trenches. Would I have loved to snag Hunter in the 2nd and/or Rambo in the 4th? Absolutely, but when Hunter was gone the only other non-trench player I was hoping for was Allen and Gettleman must not have been sold on his injury recovery or something. Our secondary is weak, but we lacked more in the trenches than we did at skill positions and trenches win games. I'd rather we lacked at skill positions than the trenches. A larger % of Super Bowl winning teams of the past 10+ years were stronger in the trenches than they were at skill positions. Most notably, the only two teams with multiple SB victories in the past 10 years which also happen to be the teams JR admires the most - Steelers and Giants.

I also try to let my bias be known...and Gettlemen never rubbed me right so I can admit I probably haven't done my homework on him like I do pieces of our franchise I an enthusiastic about. I kind of immediately have put him in the "not sure about this guy" category the moment I felt he was not "all in" on Cam.

I have heard him say multiple times that teams first need to find their franchise quarterback and this team has that. Multiple interviews, multiple times. He is all in on Cam.

Gettlemania wants Cam to have a career that surpasses a decade. I don't blame him for wanting Cam to stay in the pocket a tad more.

Yeah, if only Steve Young would have stayed in the pocket he could of been a contender, he could of been somebody.

The goaline piles and short yardage piles will need to go....his basic running? He isn't taking hits doing it. Take out the short yardage plays and he probably runs near the same amount as an old version of Steve Young.

Richardson wouldn't have even approved the hire if Gettleman wasn't. Who the hell wouldn't want Cam?

Them the front office will need to start showing it soon IMO.

Ted Ginn's, Murphy's, 1 yr Shockey rentals, Murphy's, and long term developmental lineman isn't really showing it

there's been no evidence that anything has changed. he's been given no other opportunities in a DECADE. you have to wonder why that is. my fear that isn't unwarranted is that we are about to find out.

Well, he was the head coach of the University of Alabama during 4 years of that decade.

And he was chosen to lead the Bama program OUT of severe scholarship restrictions that had been placed on them for NCAA probation.

His teams went 4-9, 6-6, 10-2, 7-6 (27-23) under severe scholarship restrictions before they booted him to the curb for Nick Saban.

Great? No... but if you understand college football and you understand having 6-7 scholarships less to offer per year than the guy next to you, you also understand that is one helluva tough hill to climb.

SF did not design an offense that required Young to become a RB. He was dangerous with his legs when the picket broke down.

Minimizing the shots Cam takes will prolong his career.

If Cam was being used as a RB (excluding his short yardage work)....he would be taking hits. He isn't. He is taking advantage of a mismatch....even when run out of a read option.

So if he isn't taking shots (again I am talking about all his non shortage work)....how is not taking all those easy yards going to prolong his career.

I think they should go ahead and take him out of the short yardage work pending a game isn't on the line late.
