First Openly Gay Professional Male Athlete In Major Sport

I would think he was much more courageous if he had come out at 24 rather than 34 and his career is pretty much over. No huge risk taken like it is being portrayed. He is looking at his next career at this point

Nobody expected the first active player to be a Kobe or RGIII but its a step in the right direction.

An athlete who says they are gay will not change anything. It starts at home and how children are raised. Religion is the biggest proponent against homosexuality and while the younger generation is finally seeing the stone aged way of living is wrong you'll still have a large portion of individuals who hate hate hate because their book says to. Things won't change until more people learn to think for themselves instead of being brainwashed from birth.

guess my point is...maybe if society stops making such a big deal of it, more people will accept it and more people will be comfortable coming out. There will also be those that oppose...and as I age, I just don't get it. I in particular, really could not care any less about what you or anyone else does or feels or believes and I have a hard time understanding why there are so many people out there who feel the need to belittle others, or attack others etc etc etc, based on what they believe.

opinions are like assholes...we all have one...and there's no way mine is better than yours or vice versa.

Part of the reason it is a big deal is because it is still so verboten in certain circles such as sports teams.

Once a few athletes come out the media doesn't have a story anymore.

Similarly, imagine if the Baptist Church came out and said, "Hey we don't actually care if people are gay anymore."

Give them time, they will. I imagine in my life time. Divorce use to be very taboo as well.

I understand and I agree...and I hope it helps others to come out and be comfortable with who they are as well. Guess I'm just disappointed that in today's day and age, we can't all just be a little more concerned with our own lives and actions instead of that of others.

Remember a few weeks ago when ESPN was running the rumors of an NFL player being close to coming out? My roommate said then, "I think whoever it is is probably just about to be a free agent and will use this to complain about discrimination if nobody hires him".

What happens now that we're sitting here, watching the story on ESPN about Collins? Same fuging thing.

I really want to hit him. Because I've suspected he has some issue with the gay people, but this just solidifies it for me.
