Top Dawg's annual If-Smitty-Goes-Down-We're-Fugged Post (with a twist)

Quarterbacks make wideouts, not the other way around. It takes a generational talent to have that principal work in reverse. Cam is evolving into the kind of quarterback that will be able to make due with a stable of replacement level players at the WR position. Sure, you'd love to see him get some more weapons but the truth is that when Cam is running hot the only thing that can stop him are dropped passes. We have a compliment of WR that are good enough to get the job done, we just have to keep him upright behind this offensive line.

Lol Flacco doesn't have a ring without Boldin and Jacoby Jones. The Patriots have the greatest season in history if it wasnt for tyree making the greatest catch ever. You need guys that can make plays like that. We don't have them. Take your blinders off.

Since you will argue forever whether you have a good point or not, I will stop since you won't. I have pointed out where we have added plenty of talent by having a first round tight end, 2 first round running backs, Tolbert (while undrafted) has been a very good receiver, Smith who is an all pro and a third rounder, LaFell who was a third rounder and is a decent number 2, Adams who is a poor man's Tavon Austin, Ginn who is a first rounder and could be a good wide receiver in addition to a returner and a number of other guys brought in for a try. 15 guys in all on the roster right now.

You won't agree and will spend pages trying to pick things apart so have at it. You seem to delight in being negative and complaining so have at it. I will be content to see how things play out and wait to bitch until it is appropriate. One question though, are you this negative all the time? I couldn't live my life that way but to each his own.

Again, you are talking about things that pre-date Cam.

I am talking about building around a young QB with young drafted talent. You are fixed on talking about band-aids and pieces from prior eras.

Olsen is nice, that isn't a commitment to invest around your young QB. 1 guy, bandaids/scrubs/ projects. Like I said, you can look at any other young QB entering at a minimum of his 3rd season as proof how we are going about it is unique.

Also, maybe you should step away from the keyboard and read your posts. For starters they are generally filled with a lot "pot meet kettle" jabs and a little like someone pissed in your cornflakes. I have always enjoyed most of our back and forth but you seem much more cranky these days.

I have told you before, I am higher on Rivera, Cam, and most parts of this team than most of the board. I however prefer to talk about the few issues I don't completely agree with.....bc talking about how awesome a something is happens to be boring.

I'll start with the positive, yes Steve does and should draw the opposing teams top cover guy. No question Smitty is top dog and one of the finest receivers in the league over the last decade.

With that said, LaFell's job is to beat the defense he's facing and he has done that quite well. To say he doesn't make plays suggests to me that you may be blind. Youtube some Panther highlight videos and you will see LaFell all over the place making circus catches, breaking tackles, and doing much of the same impossible Smitty serves up. You can't say the kid can't play when all he's done is put stats that are superior in Smitty's in many ways against weaker coverage. I would expect his stats to drop when facing the top corner as Smitty does, how much, who knows? The fact is they could drop quite a bit and he would still be in Smitty's neigborhood stat wise. Another fact is LaFell does make plays when given the opportunity, go watch some game film or highlight reels to remind yourself of this please.

Whoa man I never said Lafell sucked or anything. Where did I say he doesn't make plays? I simply said that a comparison between him and Steve simply based on stats is misleading because of the double coverage Steve draws. That is just a fact, not me bashing Lafell. I think Lafell can be a very good #2 if he improves his consistency. By that I mean getting separation, and being on the same page with Cam not his catching ability. I'm not one of the guys on here that totally shits on lafell, I just haven't seen anything to show he can be a #1 WR that can draw and beat double teams like Smitty does, yet. You must be confusing what I said with someone else.
