"It is sometimes better to be lucky than good": Some Panthers draft grades

top dawg

So we have four RBs that can all pass protect for Cam while he searches for his one (assuming he stays this way) viable perimeter weapon or perhaps his inside pretty one dimensional TE.

Even if Barner becomes some pass catching tool out of the backfield, then it only further reduces Williams' usefulness (not that he's displayed much ability in that regard anyways)

How much longer can Smith carry this corp? You take him out and we have what is undeniably the worst corp of offensive weapons in the league.

The sky is not falling because we didn't nab some soon to be fourth round journeyman WR. It amazes me how little some fans know about football. It is funny that the last few superbowl champions won by running the ball and stopping the run in the playoffs. That includes the Packers. Everyone is so scared about our defensive backs, but they played very well at the end of last season. What about Rambo? What makes him better than an experienced Campbell or Mitchell? This is what the Cowboys, Giants, Patriots, and most recently the 49ers have done to win. They build inside out. I am excited about this team and GM going forward.

Not saying that I disagree with your assessment, but the biggest question mark regarding the draft was not why we didn't draft a WR in the 5th/6th, it was why we didn't draft a WR when we drafted Short. Keenan Allen (who I don't personally believe would have been Smitty's heir-apparent, but, imo didn't really need to be) was there for the taking. Most would say he was definitely a 2nd round talent, and some even believed he was a true 1st, but we passed on him in favor of Short. That was the Panthers' (G-man's) "crossroads moment" for this draft. Time will tell if we made the correct decision.

This I will agree 100% with.

The ONLY place folks can finger wag in the draft is not taking Hunter/Allen when he took short.

Who gives a poo who we took on the 3rd day? We took a high upside guard (good pick), a excellent linebacker (good pick), and a RB who fits VERY well in our offense (High Value Pick).

I can do without the Former Vol Drug dealer WR and more Gettis/Pilares clones.

Cam has all the weapons he needs. Our offense isn't set up like that of Green Bay, but I don't think it needs to be.

If there is anyone in our front office who isn't aspiring to set our offense up like that then they need to be terminated immediately before we blow the opportunity we've been given with an elite young QB.

and it's an indictment on yours that you think it's not.

It can be improved no doubt, but for the billionth time --> Has scoring points been an issue the past 2 years?

We just have to bring Hakeem Nicks home :D

Week 1 16 points

Week 3 7 points

Week 5 12 points

Week 7 14 points

Week 10 14 points

Yeah scoring points kinda was a problem.

Hunter was long gone, it was only Allen left. And personally I don't need us to use a 2nd rounder on a slow west coast WR who can't get separation. Sure as hell didn't work last time.

They need to be FIRED cause they make us THE WORST. I hate being THE WORST.

I didn't know about that. I didn't want him for his hands. I absolutely would not add a WR with suspect hands.

I like that "Vol" reference, even though I don't see where it was really apropos to make your point (*LOL*). Then again, maybe it was. *LOL*
