He is a spoiled brat and got his way. The Giants are not going to the Superbowl anytime soon. He figured that the Chargers were a bad team and never improve. Little did he know that they would become a Super Bowl caliber team with a excellent offense and a solid defense. It is likely that he also imagined that it would be a ball controlled, run the ball offense aka Marty Ball. He handled himself very poorly and could have done a better job faking being happy until the trade happened. I still remember his half smile and I just thought he was a punk after that. He will never escape his brother's shadow. He made a huge mistake. I bet he regrets his decision now or at least he will if the Chargers make a Superbowl run.

What you need to understand was that San Diego were pretty poor at the time. They were pretty much the laughing stock of the league, and the draft selections they made in 2001 (LT, Brees etc.) had yet to realise their full potential.

The way the Mannings saw it at the time was that SD were going nowhere, and they didn't want Eli to play for what they considered to be a 'loser' franchise.

Not the first time this has ever happened. John Elway was drafted first by the then Baltimore Colts back in 1983. He refused to play for them - even threatening to play baseball - before the Colts gave in and traded him to Denver.

But back to SD. Don't feel sorry for the Bolts. In the last three seasons, they've turned things around, lost Brees along the way, but hasn't Rivers (Eli's 'replacement') looked good so far?

As for Eli, he continues to struggle with the Giants, and even if he comes good personally, he has to deal with the constant nit-picking of the New York media.

    Payback is a b***h, huh?
