No holes to run them last year....you wanted them to run Williams for no gain more?

The first half of last year, it was obvious we weren't utilizing Stewart or Tolbert properly and on top of it weren't even using Olsen enough. We picked it up toward the mid/end of the season but its beyond blocking. I'm not talking about the success of the runs but how we used the guys we had in given circumstances.

That is just not true. We don't want Foxball, we want a balanced Offense that utilizes all our weapons. Cam got hit way too much last year. I know you think he is an athletic tank and we need to utilize him all we can. I happen to think he can be just as effective without all those extra hits. If we can improve on how we finished up last year, we can be very effective. Go ahead. Think positively. It feels good..........Cam has already proven he is a threat. The threat of his threat is enough to threaten Defenses. He doesn't have carry the load anymore. That should work to our advantage as well.

Posters don't like the term Foxball bc it relates to Fox....however it is in fact what is often asked for.

There aren't the touches for all those RBs in an offense built to maximize Newton's ability....simple and plain.

The ONLY way for Williams, Stewart, Tolbert to be worth there checks....would mean to make it a non Newton geared offense. There are many versions of what a Newton geared offense should be....but make the RBs earn their checks and he is roleplayer on a ground and pound team.

and Cam did get hit too much last year....when trying to pass behind that weak OL (specifically G play)...I do want to limit him being hit while trying to throw and goaline dives. His general running around? Cam doesn't get hit unless he wants to get hit....

You say it isn't the problem then post an perfect example why it is a problem...

You drafted Cam Newton....boom, now you don't have an offense where you need RBs to pound all game. You need different talent to suit an offense geared toward him. Newton 100% deserves those 7 carries a game....and he has proven why. Most dangerous part of the rush attack and that is with 2 great runners....the mismatch he creates is comical.

Cam could be better...he should be. The fact he produces offense doesn't mean our weapons are good enough around him. A LOT of plays have been left on the field the last 2 years

Wait what is the perfect example of why its a problem?

Caz Luck is inferior to Cam as both a passer and a runner?

We'll have way less plays left on the field if we can give him some sort of time in the pocket and have some form of a running game. Hell in Cam's first season as a team we rushed for more yards than AP did last year - with a YPC. You add that in with Cam's passing ability (compared to Ponder's) and we are looking better than a team that did make the playoffs last year.

No you're wrong. You've seen the success of teams that like the Redskins, Seahawks, Vikings and Bengals who took the pressure off their young QB. By having a solid under center running game. Make Cam the bulk of the running game was a mistake. Having the read option as the base of our running attack instead of just using it as a change of pace play was a mistake.

If you look over the last few years you will see the offensive plays "left on the field" could be contribute to either bad play calling or the growing pains of a young QB. Not a lack of weapons.

Again there can't be a lack of weapons if your QB holds or is second in most if not all passing stats for a 2 year QB.

No that not the problem. You don't have to play Foxball or Chud ball with this lineup. Just a combination of the 2.

You can't have all that money in the RB group and only run the ball 17 times with Cam getting 7 of those carries.

You talk about our lineup being so lacking with WR.

But Cam has pass for the most yards of any QB in their 1st 2 years and leads the league in pass plays of 20 yards or more. He also is top 5 in yards per pass plays.

Somebody is catching these passes people.

Hell It took Luck 100 more attempts to beat Cam's passing yards record.

If our Offense is effective we are getting about 30, or more, carries a game. With Cam accounting for 3-4, Not 7. We are probably throwing it about 40 times a game. Depends on the game. Some games you run, some games you pass. Different scenarios dictate different approaches. That should be enough carries to get everyone involved, and keep us balanced at the same time............. We don't want to be run heavy with Cam as a QB. But you want the RBs to carry the bulk of the time when you do run.

After browsing all day one of the first sensible posts that don't need corrections. Thanks, there's hope on the huddle after all.

Totally agree how can you expect success out of your QB when you place the bulk of the running game and Passing game success on his shoulders. We seen the other young QB like Kapk, Rg3, Dalton, R wilson and even Ponder. Get the benefit of a strong run game leading to their success in the W-L record. While Cam has to carry the ship. Just use the dam weapons around him and he will be better. Plain and simple.

Hey, don't get me wrong. I want Cam to get his rushes too. Just limit them. He already is a threat because he has the ball on every play. Use that threat to open up other areas. Play action is Cam's bread and butter. Yet it is rarely called. If Shula can keep the momentum we started last year going this year. We should be very good on Offense. Even with our limited WR corps. Sarcasm on that last one.

Cam's potential is simply better than those guys...

Cam has never been the bulk of the running game. He has been part of it....as he should of been and will continue to be.

We run a vertical pass offense and last year had no one who could take the top of the D consistantly on the field....it was a handicapped offense in many ways.

and it doesn't matter how Cam runs...read option is drastically overplayed in terms of why we struggled. OL blew....imploded our O often. Same reason you could line up Cam under C and handoff all game and RBs went nowhere....which we also did.

And yes, Cam producing offense doesn't mean he has enough or the right weapons. He is special. Have to nurture that. Who again stretched the field last year in our vertical pass offense? With pathetic G play Cam danced around all year? Cam could and should of been better....but we have to help that occur

Doesn't matter to me how Cam runs. I don't are of we use the read option or not. Doesn't matter....Cam's number can be called 1000 ways.

We need a vertical threat. We lack that. Not a gimmick one. Weak OL play is also a concern. Cam's health is a concern of mine....not when running except goaline stuff.

3-4 carries?

Steve Young averaged more carries than that as he approached near 40 years old. You know why Steve was great? Bc they let him play.

Even if you never ran a read option or called a QB run....Newton is too natural of a runner. He will find his spots to run more than 3 times a game. It is what he is....and why he is special

You have this notion on your brain don't you. What does this even mean? If we actually gave our RBs adequate carries, we are harming Cam? We are inhibiting his growth in some way because we want an actual RB to lead the team in rushing yards? ................Cam has an uncanny ability to avoid contact while still getting all he can get out of a play. So a few designed plays, should still be enough touches for him to be a factor at something other than the passing game. Just keep the touches to a minimum is all I ask.

I disagree Cam newton needs those carries, thats his identity and we shouldn't take away whats working with Cam ....... We just need to run more of traditional Power running game and get Guards that can create running lanes ( which we addressed in 4th round) We just need to use the option on limited basis as a wrinkle ...........Newton is biggest threat as a runner is short yardage situation and when he scrambles in broken down play
