Was Kawann Short a case of...

this is a 2-3 year rebuilding project. it's smart to get the DTs early since they take longer to develop. we won't be very good next year but this draft will pay dividends further down the line.

Post like these irk me. We are Playoffs bound. This draft just made the greatest weakness a strength. 7-9 just turned into 10-6.

It was a case of BPA, plain and simple. I wouldn't have hated a DB or WR, but you have to remember that Dwan is merely a stop-gap on a 2-year deal. Do we really want to be right back in the same DT situation in 3 years?

I won't say it's the pick I would have made, but there's nothing at all wrong with it either.

Please don't go there. Less than 2% of the Huddle understand 3 tech vs. 5 tech terminology. UT vs. NT has many you are debating Utah compared to Nevada Tech players.

Don't even begin discussing gap assignments.

Lol but it is so "simple" A, B, C, D gaps or we can go the classic numerical 1,2, and 3 gap. I thought everyone in here that knows everything actually played at some point in their life lol

maybe we can explain the difference between a 1 gap and 2 gap DT next...

BPA. From what i heard from Gettleman the inconsistent motor came from Short playing 92% of the snaps. That is insane.

Was really pissed at first, but man oh man is this line gonna be fun to watch for the next 5 years or so.

any true Panther fan knew that's why Hardy fell off in 2011...

The wisdom of this pick will play out next year.DL is great in most cases but with qbs like Brees and P Manning you better have a secondary because he is going to release it before you can sack him coupled with teams running a no huddle. I like Star and Short but have absolutely no confidence in our secondary or OL.

Smh! Dude really! Why are you been so neg here. rebuilding project my butt. Gettlemen is building to win now and not 2-3 years from now. Stop been so neg about this. You don't know how this team is going to play this year. So chill out and wait and watch instead of predicting doom for us this year.

I love how nobody was willing to admit that Sheldon Richardson could have been a good pick, but now that we have Short, UT was suddenly a need.

I like this pick. I don't love it, just because I wanted Jamar Taylor or Swearinger when it was our turn, but our d-line is now officially scary.

It was a case of BPA and as others have said, Short's primary skill set (UT) fills a different need than Lotulelei's primary skill set fills (NT). Gettleman said that they considered Short the best pass rushing DT in the draft and they think he has the versatility to play any position on the line.

Love the comment Gettleman made about the "feeding frenzy", gonna enjoy watching some Matt Ryan and Drew Brees feeding frenzies this year.

I bet Short starts next season and Dwan walks in FA. Short will get plenty of reps this season in a very productive DT rotation.

I like that so many people assume we took two of the same guy (DT) before offering their sound team building advice.

We took DT from a weakness to a potential strength. I like it.

Everybody is dogging KmoonL, but there is a bit of truth to what he says. Learning curves for DT's are a bit steep. I think Star will be able to hold his own pretty quickly. Short will shine in his second season. Very few DT's become all pro their rookie years.

Gettleman has a plan and winning in the trenches is where it starts. I would think our 3 and outs on defense will go up quite a bit this season. I really like our LB's chances in the second half of the season. These three should be able to run wild. I envision many chest bumps.
