Peter King also agrees and the Philly scouts think so... but you don't so they are wrong obviously.

4. Philadelphia. Eagles have been nutty about getting players who fit the 3-4. Hear they like Star Lotulelei a lot to play all along the line, even at nose.

I am sad at you for linking to Peter King.

Star could play NT just like Ratliff for the Cowboys does.

Using quickness and lower body strength to make up for lack of fatboyness.

I agree with this, Gettleman's emphasis on how deep the DT class is this year makes me think we'll wait till the 2nd round to get one.

It's also important to remember that we were targeting Barron with the # 9 pick last year and didn't get him. We haven't been able to address the position since then, so you'd have to think safety is still considered a high priority on our board even with the change at GM.

What interests me is that Gettlemen mentioned DT and DB being the deepest positions in the draft. You think he takes the top player at the deepest position? Doesn't really make sense, unless we are on the clock and he is the best player on the board.

True, but there might still be a separation at the top even though it's deep. The 2012 quarterback class was deep, but you'd much rather have Luck or Griffin instead of Weeden.

I also saw something about Panthers "sources" indicating that they felt like they were good at safety, which sounds like a classic pre-draft smokescreen to me...

"No, we're not interested in safeties at all, so you don't have to worry about taking one before out pick comes up..."

Awful stat to judge a safety on.

Sherrod Martin is much much faster but is awful at tackling and getting the right angle.

I know speed isn't everything, but I just don't see a guy who runs a 4.6 as ever being an elite cover man which is what you want if your taking a safety in the top 15 he runs around the same speed as Nakumura for comparison....

Yup, 4.6 is fast enough... safety is much more about instincts and knowledge of the game.

I believe Vaccaro will be a great in the box player maybe even Troy polamalu light,

I do not believe he will ever be an elite cover man, I believe drafting star would

Give us an elite dline with no weaknesses and free up our lbs.

If he is covering it will typically be a TE, no problem there.

Mostly keeping everything in front of him with a big head start. Much more important to have instincts, play recognition, and the right angle.

This is why older CB's sometimes convert to safety where speed isn't nearly as important.

I watched some game (specifically, Baylor and the Bowl game) footage of Vaccaro here: http://draftbreakdow...-vs-baylor-2012

Unfortunately, I came away extremely unimpressed. I mean... I would not be interested in this guy in the first round at all. Can someone show me some decent play by him? Is there a game where he at least looks decent?

At this point I will be completely disappointed if this is the pick.

To clarify, I am not against taking a safety in the first if he is the best player available (or close). I just have not seen anything to get excited about this particular player. Not at all.
