The Panthers and "falling stars"

Mr. Scot

the flip side of this argument is taking a "rising unknown prospect"

see Sherrod Martin

that year tho i remember reading that the panthers were big on him, and did do a lot research on him. it was in the usatoday draft guide and it said we loved him, but he was a playmaker at one point.

none besides getting married and having 2 kids................j/k.

Family's generally a good thing.

I think his wife and kids are a big reason why Steve Smith became the man that he is rather than turning into a Terrell Owens type.

Same could be said of Eric Shelton, sadly :(

Everret Brown wasn't a "Falling Star"

One of the big questions with Lotulelei is a heart condition identified during medical checks at The Combine. And while he's been medically cleared to play, the condition is still there.

My understanding is that it was a false positive on the first check and the second check came back normal.

speaking from experience. getting married and having 2 kids while finishing college is a red flag. dont tell my wife tho...................

yeah that is why the draft is a crap shot, you can do extensive research on somebody and they can bust. and vice versa. i do think that Martin contributed more then Eric.

Kalil fell to us as well. Dan Connor I think was slated to go a lot higher, as well as Munnerlyn. Neither were bad picks. Duke Robinson was pretty terrible though.

Those don't really qualify as "falling stars" though. But I think Star falling has more to do with the other players in the draft and not necessarily him.

Sorry, what was the permanent medical condition they said he had?

All I've read is that his Ejection Fraction was temporarily 10% or so lower than the low end of normal. It can be caused by a bunch of random things, such as a (viral) illness, or salt intake.

He was medically cleared without the need for future follow-up... that's pretty huge for ANY heart problem (from someone who still gets checked occasionally for a heart issue as a kid)

Assuming this is all correct, the more I think there is no way he will be there at 14. But remain hopeful.

good call i did not know that. and I loved sherrod I really though he was going to be a great player for us. Still could be i guess, but it was a bad 2nd round pick for us hindsight being 20 20

Whomever Ross Tucker is, he's an idiot.

well to his credit hes a Prinston graduate and played 7 years in the NFL, now owns his own recruiting firm, was host on ESPN's Football Today podcast and often makes appreances on NFLN and writes for Sports USA

... Im just saying he knows far more than any of us.
