Dunlap Fired

I think the Ben Gordon situation sealed his fate. Also Mike Dunlap did not have a clue on what a rotation was. I swear every game it was like inny minny miny mo on who was starting.

The 10 choke jobs they pulled this year is what sealed his fate. Didn't they blow a big double digit lead a couple times this year?

Just found this in the ESPN article:

Defensively, the Bobcats allowed 102.6 points per game, the second-most in the league, and they were the NBA's worst shooting team at 42.5 percent.

This doesn't exactly speak well for Dunlap's "coaching abilities."

Not surprised that he's gone. But now that he has they have to get he next hire right, because we need more than another stop gap head coach, we need a guy that can develop the players and help push them on to become a lot more competitive.

I wonder how quick they'll make an appointment.

Sooooo I disagree with almost everyone in this thread- I dont think NBA head coaches are particularly important.

Unless you have a great head coach like Popovich or Phil, it just doesnt make a difference. This is the reason NBA coaches move around so much- players get tired of a guys style or the team wants to look like they are doing something, so you fire the coach and hire another guy without losing much of anything

As long as the team hires someone mostly competent I'll be happy.

Good. Dunlap was horrible. The players didn't respect him at all, nor should they have... Dude had the wackest rotations I've ever seen in my entire life. No rhyme or reason, just dumb.

Excited to see who we get, and hope it's not another dud who has never been a HC in the NBA or D1.

I would put Thibs up there in that category as well.

Ideally, I would like a hard-nosed, gritty coach in the Thibs/Popovich mold that the players trust and respect.

Bobcats job a lot more attractive now - $21 mill cap space, top 5 pick. More coaches interested this year than last, sources say

Dunlap definitely blew a few games that we should have easily won. And I still don't know why he refused to play MKG when we were obviously better with MKG out there. Oh well, I knew he was a stopgap but I thought it'd be a 2 year assignment instead of 1 year. He did his job and it's really not fair to him, but hopefully we'll find our coach for the future now. Sounds like the job is already garnering way more attention than it did last year. I think Cho knows what he's doing and it sounds like the players didn't like him at all.

I thought Dunlap was pretty good, helped the young guys a lot, improved the offense and lost a lot of games. Considering he was known as a hard-ass and had no NBA experience to demand respect, I'm not surprised the players didnt like him though

If he doesnt coach in the NBA again he will have quite a unique resume- 1 season, 26% W, led the only team in NBA history to triple its win total
