Matt Elam compared to Charles Godfrey

Recommended Posts

FS have to be good in coverage assignments....which Godfrey always struggled with.

as a SS he could play near the line and pressure, flesh bomb, and runners didn't have as much space....

I have always maintained Martin was and is a better FS than Godfrey....both suck however.

I can agree with this.

Not a big fan of Godfrey's. He's probably gone after this season as a cap casualty.

He's not terrible, but he won't be worth his cap figure soon.

Godfrey is a good leader and locker room guy but his plays hasn't worth much of his money. He had one good year on paper with 5 ints in 2010, but most of those picks we're thrown right to him. He doesn't brings the ability shutdown the passing or running game like others Safety do. Receivers and TEs has had most of their ways vs Godfrey since his time here.

Yea, Godfrey is very mediocre in both areas.

I think it's a disgrace to compare Elam to Godfrey. Elam is better than Godfrey IMO

Godfrey's physical abilities simply never have translated over to playing S. He should be much better than he is...

Godfrey is hugely underated!!! For that matter him and Chris Gamble!!! Godfrey makes is a solid tackler, actually a great tackler, yes he does get ran over every once in a while (year or two in between each other), but for the most part he makes good clean tackles. As for coverage he is kinda of slow coming off the hash.

i agree with most of this, the guy who use to wail his arms in the air trying to make a tackle is long gone Godfrey has improved in tackling and coverage and lays the wood alot more when tackling, if it wasn\t for his contract he would be fine but let\s see how he does this year.

He certainly wasn't underrated by Hurney. The contract he gave Godfrey necessitates a renegotiation or outright cut soon.
