Revis To Bucs, And Why We Should Rejoice

If he is thaaaaaaaat unbelievable, undescribable, unstappable good, why didn`t I see the Jets in the SB when he played there? The Bucs are still a team with a 53 men roster on gameday, not a one man show. So I think we should prepare for him, but not overreact like the media is doing. He can be beat, plenty of QBs and WRs have proven that. Geeeee...

Yes, considering we have done much worse. Much much worse.

So, how do you think Schiano will utilize Revis? Will he use him as a lockdown corner on other teams' #1 receivers, or will he attempt to use him to cover more ground and take away half the field by using a hybrid zone? What will they do to counteract bunch formations on Revis' side of the field, particularly when teams run him toward crossing routes in an attempt shed him off his receiver? How do they compensate for the poor coverage skills of Goldson and Wright? Will the Bucs lack of pass rushers force Revis to cover receivers longer than he is used to? How will that affect his stamina coming off a major injury?

See, you make these kinds of statements but don't ever say anything to elucidate why you feel the way you do.

Revis on Smith...Smith had one catch for 5 yards, and had one bounce off his foot right into Revis's hands. If he's still even close to the same player he was in 2009, this is really bad news for Panthers fans.

However, since the Jets were intent on unloading him, it either speaks to his health, or the fact that they didn't think he was worth what the Bucs paid for him. Probably both.

Are we really going back to 2009 to decide whether he can play Steve Smith or not? We had Jake and Moore at quarterback not Newton and few if any other receivers. Revis is playing on the worse secondary in the league bar none last year. Lets not assume that he alone will suddenly make them a top 5 secondary. He will be 28 this year coming off ACL surgery which takes a while to be able to cut sharply from. He will never see all of that contract and while he may be very good, is not likely to be as good as he was.

Jets-Bucs complete deal for star CB ... Tampa Bay has finally acquired veteran CB Darrelle Revis from the NY Jets. Revis completed a physical in Tampa where he agreed on a 6-year contract extension worth $96M, although only his salary in 2013 is guaranteed. In exchange for Revis, the Jets get the 13th pick in this week's draft as well as a conditional 4th round pick in 2014; that pick will escalate to a 3rd rounder if Revis is on the Bucs' roster the 3rd day of the 2014 season. The Jets had been hoping for more in exchange for Revis, but settled for the future pick because Tampa Bay was the only potential partner and they just didn't have much leverage. However, with the 13th pick in addition to the 9th selection this year, the Jets have some leverage heading into Thursday's draft.

LMAO- not a single dime of his contract is guaranteed, which means nobody else wanted him.

The Jets made out on this deal, becoming the first team since 2000 to have 2 picks in the top 13 in this weekend's draft. And both of those picks combined won't cost them $16M.

Revis isn't even going to practice until September.

no guaranteed money MADE this trade worthwhile for the Buccs because Revis KNOWS he has to perform or be cut. Thats actually a bad thing for Buccs division rivals.

but what's the worst that he can do? shut down one receiver?

meh....the rest of their secondary is still poo and they still have no pass rush.

just throw the ball to someone else other than smitty. if you're worried about who else to throw it to, draft another WR...or draft another one anyway.

the offense shouldn't be keying in on smith as much as it does. it needs to be airing it out and spreading it around to multiple receivers anyway. you do it right and revis isn't really all that much of a factor.

however, if your plan of attack is to run the ball or throw it to smith you're going to lose against the bucs. it's as simple as that. or at least you aren't going to be doing much against their defense. it's built to stop the run and one receiver and that's it.

100% correct.

the bucs got hosed. of course they had tons of cap room for some reason so they won't feel it.

he's making $32mil in two years. in one year he's going to be making what a 1st round pick at 13 would be making in his first 2-3 years. they did this in a year when the market dropped lower than it has in nearly a decade...esp. for CBs.

they had no competition for revis and the jets wanted him gone more than the bucs wanted him.

the whole thing is ridiculous, esp. when you factor in how easy it is to work around him.

of course smith had a bad game. look at how poorly delhomme played that game.

yep. it was a crap year and that game jake threw 34 times and only had 14 completions. worse than that, he threw 4 INTs and no TDs. 2 to revis. that's not on smitty...that's on jake and davidson. jake was playing like poo that year and that game was a perfect snapshot of how poorly he was doing.

of those 34 pass attempts i think only about 6 went smith's way. one was a TD that was challenged and ruled an incomplete. two were intercepted, one being a pick 6. he finished that game with a 12.7 QB rating.

yeah, jake sucked. that was his worst game of the year.

Didn't Revis hold Smith to 5 yards or something the last time they played?

You mean the game were jake threw 4 picks and Revis himself admitted that smitty had him beat no less that 4 times on deeper routes?

I believe this is actually the game were Revis said smith was the toughest man he ever had to cover.
