Revis To Bucs, And Why We Should Rejoice

I mean it's a risk, but so is any draft pick. Revis is a proven top 3 if not top 2 corner. The Bucs have the money and don't lose anything if they end up cutting him.

Except the potential 10 year starter they could have taken at 13.

They don't sign a high profile player from free agency every year but if they wanted Mike Wallace they easily could have signed him. They usually rely on building through the draft but they not afraid to throw around money.

Miller and Bennett were key components in stopping the run last year. It's going to be difficult to replace them through the draft. Bowers, himself, isn't a three down player. They need a good pass rush and a big plug in the middle and Tampa can't have both this year. OT on both sides is most definitely a big need.

Cleveland and Indianapolis won't mind waiting for Revis in FA if the Bucs don't want to pay him. They were willing to part ways with their best cover DB after all.

1)lol, are you high? How the heck could they have "easily" signed Wallace?

2)What's stopping them from getting a DT and DE? They didn't re-sign Miller for a reason. He was great against the run but sucked a pass rusher. I think Gibson could do similar a job and have a rotation of him a rookie DT and Landri. That's more than decent.

DE is a problem but again they could probably get a pretty decent one in the 2nd.

I think Tampa is happy with Penn and Dotson at OT. Depth is an issue but not a major one.

3)Huh? Revis signed a 6 year deal. Only way Cle & Indy can get him is if he's cut or traded....

they let their best pass rusher walk for peanuts, passed up on numerous quality DBs in free agency they could have signed for 5-6 million per year

instead give up a 1st, 3rd and 16 million per year to a guy coming off a serious injury

lol genius

this is a stupid move even for a team close to a championship. for a below average team like the bucs its just lol worthy

Serious homerism going on in this thread....

They traded potential (draft picks) for potential (great player coming off an injury) to team friendly contract and addressed their number 1 need (pass defense).

Maybe it doesn't work out, but this is still a good deal for the Bucs.

I'd be worried about not letting him heal all the way though. I think there's going to be a lot of pressure for him to play early (to put people in the stands especially for the opener against the Jets) instead of seeing where he's at with his rehab.

We just experienced what it's like to play a player too soon with Beason.

If anyone thinks this doesn't help the Bucs, you are not living in reality. The leagues toughest division, just got tougher

I think this puts more emphasis on getting a stud WR or TE in this draft early.

You also forgot to mention this is good for all the Tavon Austin lovers because the chances of the Bucs not taking Austin increased since they now pick after us.

I dunno, I could definitely see the Jets take Austin at 13 or trade the pick to someone who wants him.

Bucs have WRs, Jets don't.

Revis on Smith...Smith had one catch for 5 yards, and had one bounce off his foot right into Revis's hands. If he's still even close to the same player he was in 2009, this is really bad news for Panthers fans.

However, since the Jets were intent on unloading him, it either speaks to his health, or the fact that they didn't think he was worth what the Bucs paid for him. Probably both.
