The Huddle 2013 NFL Open GM Draft

No matter who the Panthers take Thursday night there's going to be major debate over the selection.

After the top 12 or so the talent really seems to gray out to a more even plane the next dozen picks imho.

My thoughts exactly, my second choice was Hunter. I just don't see drafting a guy who may never be more than a slot receiver that you can move to the backfield situationally as a smart pick. Hunter while risky, has the physical tools to be a great number one Wide Out. Same thing with Hayden, sure it's a risk taking a guy who's had heart surgery, but his ability cannot be questioned. I'm all for going down trying to get someone special....

Just going to post this for the Hayden hate.

After going back to the film to appreciate Hayden's toughness and tackling ability, Mayock has vaulted Hayden all the way to No. 1 among cornerbacks, ahead of consensus favorite Dee Milliner of Alabama. Hayden also is the top cornerback on NFL Films analyst Greg Cosell's board.

I actually think the Panthers are in a crappy position at 14 this year. We could really use a trade down but teams know they can prolly get just as good talent at ~20 as 14. :(

Yea I agree, Austin won't be there and he would be the biggest trade down bait. Star won't be there, all the OTS will be off the board, so unless someone wants to move up and get Geno (if he's even there) we're pretty much fuged....

If the Jest finish that trade with the Bucs and don't take Geno at 9, I think Austin will fall to Carolina at 14. The Jets are now the the biggest threat to pick him. ( I didn't in this mock because their earlier pick wasn't used for QB, so I went with the next player on my board for them)

The question is does Carolina go WR at 14..

Yea I agree, the only scenario I see where Jets don't end up with Tavon is if the Bills take him one pick before which could very well happen....

And to your second point, I honestly have no idea what they're going to do. Last year I had it narrowed down to about three guys (including Kuechly), but this year I feel like it's wide open. I could see either Safety (tho I'm not a Vaccaro fan), a CB (despite what Gettleman said the best players on the board will probably be Corners), WRS, or even a DE if a guy like Ziggy fell....
