What if we traded our 1st for....

Recommended Posts

And next year you'll ask "what if we trade the pick we got from last year for next year's..." Some people don't have the balls to handle having a first round pick without wanting to trade out of it, and I'm glad our GM isn't one of them.

You start to see these kinds of ridiculous posts every year as we get closer and closer to draft time and the evidence on who were taking/ who were interested in taking becomes more apparent.

People who harbor some kind of weird obsessive fetish against a certain player or position begin to contrive these silly hail Mary posts that are centered around "noooo! Anything but that!!" even if they throw all common sense out the window

It's fairly routine.

Probably the best scenario for the Vikings to call us (from my analysis of the article and thoughts), is for Tavon to go ahead of us, causing the Vikings to freak out thinking the Rams will take Patterson, boom they get on the phone with us. Give us 23, and your 2nd rounder and call it a deal.

That said, I doubt we trade back.

2nd in 2013 and 1st and 3rd in 2014.

There are a number of teams are ahead of us that need that 1st round talent and then want G. Smith and don't feel comfortable with waiting to see if he is in round 2.

Would you be comfortable with 2 second round picks.

So you're telling me Marty Hurney is now GMing the team we'll make this deal with?

Cause that's the kind of stupid shyt he would do.

what if....

...people actually titled nonsense realistically and then I could skip this garbage because I knew what it was about

What if people didn't whine about topics they didn't come up with. No one as mentioned possibly trading away a weak draft first round pick for two in a draft most likely better than this one.

If you suspect a post doesn't meet your criteria. Don't open it. Regardless I could give a rats ass whether you think it is stupid or not.

Get a life and stop your damn whining cause you aren't in charge. AH.

That's a Marty Huney scenario.

Gettleman's statements in his pre-draft presser make me think he has no interest in this kind of transaction.

It actually isn't a bad move if you take a high 2nd and a third this year and next year first.

I don't think we will but mostly because we only have a few picks in this draft.

But I would not agree that this is a Hurney move. I never saw him trade a pick away for a higher pick next year. His moves were always trading a higher round pick next year for a lower round this year. E. Brown and A. Edwards right off the top of my head.

Gettleman doesn't seem much inclined toward trading at all. I get the impression somebody'd have to knock his socks off with an offer (hence the "dollar for three dimes" analogy).

He also mentioned wanting to get immediate starters out of the first two rounds of this draft. Not something you can do trading for future picks.

I think the days of the Panthers war room being a trading post are over.

Sorry. I thought it was going to be a legitimately decent idea. Maybe you were deceptive in your titling on purpose...I mean it's not like you aren't being incredibly defensive.

Yea, I'd be plenty ok with trading down in the 2nd to get an extra 1st next year. Especially if it's with the Jags or some other QB needy team that will probably be picking high again next year. I don't foresee it happening, usually those types of trades happen at the end of the 1st, not the top of the middle. But for argument's sake lets say the hypothetical trade is with the Jags and our first two picks this year are 33 and 44. Whomever we get at 33 probably won't be that big of a dropoff from who we could have gotten at 14 (unless Star is there).

Richardson, Vaccaro, Austin, Patterson are the popular picks for us at 14. At 33 we should be able to get Hankins, Short, J. Williams or S. Williams. At worst, any of of these is a minor downgrade from Richardson (and I'd actually rather have Hankins or maybe S. Williams).

At 33 we could possibly get Cyprien, and most likely could get Elam or Rambo. Any one of those 3 I actually prefer to Vaccaro.

At 33 we could possibly get Hunter, Hopkins or Allen, and likely could get Patton, Rogers or Woods. The first I would much prefer over Austin or Patterson and the other 4 would be minor (at most) downgrades from Austin or Patterson.

Without sacrificing much talent from this class we could add a 1st next year in this hypothetical trade, and having two 1sts next year (especially if the one we got was from the Jags or some other team that will most likely be picking high next year) could allow us to pick up a truly elite talent (whether by the pick we acquire being high or if the pick isn't high we could package that one with ours to move up high enough), which we don't have much of a chance of getting this year.

What about trading a dollar for a dollar and a quarter? Sounds like good management to me.
