Snow's Draft (updated for draft week)

Here's a list of who we've shown interest in for our first pick:

Ezekiel Ansah (DE)

DJ Fluker (OT/G)

Tavon Austin (WR)

Jonathan Cyprien (SS)

Kenny Vaccaro (FS)

DeAndre Hopkins (WR)

Datone Jones (DE/DT)

Sly Williams (DT)

Kawann Short (DT)

Patterson (WR)

Keenan Allen (WR) (*maybe R2 now)

Considering this, I think Ansah, Austin and Fluker are gone by our pick along with Star and LJ. It's a big crop to choose from. Short is too inconsistent and Patterson is a long shot imo. I made a few choices for some picks because honestly this draft is a complete crapshoot.

1: John Cyprien (SS) FIU

Really hard to choose a 1st rounder this year but I'm sticking with Cyprien from my other mock. I think it could just as easily be Sly, Vaccaro or Nuke.

2: Stedman Bailey (WR) WVU --or-- Larry Warford (OG) Kentucky --or-- Gavin Escobar (TE) SD State

Gettleman said he's going with the best possible player that can help our team. I think the likes of Short, Hunter, & Allen will be gone here and think there are a few directions we can go.

4: Akeem Spence (DT) Illinois

In my opinion, Spence is the top DT against the run in this draft. Needs to work at being a more effective pass rusher but that's why we have Hardy & 'Xander slip inside for.

5: Ryan Otten (TE) San Jose St. --or-- Chris Faulk (OT) LSU

An underrated TE this draft season who could make a good backup/compliment to Olsen. I really like him as a late round pick. Great talent.

6: Luke Marquardt (OT) Azusa Pacific --or- Kicker Dude (K) A College

Big sleeper offensive lineman in the draft. Could be a great late pick.

Do not like the idea that a 4th round DT can start day one. And I like Patton but what does he bring different then any other Wr we already have?

He's not super speedy or have great size. He is a 6'0 good route runner. We have 6'0 good route runners.

I like Spence for us. If we want a DT who can improve our run-d, I think he's one of the top choices as I mentioned. I'm not looking at the position relative to where the pick is; I'm looking at who could be available and at the top of our lists given who we've looked at.

I don't like the idea that you depend on a 4th round rated DT to start and be the only thing added to help our run defense.

We did that with 2 3rd rounders in 2011 and it didn't workout at all.

He's an addition, we're not depending on him. And again, I'm looking at Spence himself, not the position relative to where the pick is.

Fluker should be on the board at 14--what makes you think he will be gone?

Just my random guess. If the top-3 OTs go early within the first 6/7 picks, it could easily happen given the team's and their needs until we pick.

You are most likely depending on who ever we draft at DT in this draft to start day one. Because we don't have poo at that position. We have the WORST DT GROUP IN THE LEAGUE.

great outlook.

good mock as well.

oh, and word of advice...avoid pissing matches with angry chihuahuas. it gets boring quicker than you'd think.

Based on the numerous mocks I've seen from numerous guys, reputable or not, I haven't seen Cyprien higher than 25.

Surprises always happen but I don't think he's in contention for our pick at #14.

    • Easily. To be able to plug in a backup LT without much drop off from your starter? That could mean the difference between playoffs or sitting at home in January. Good/serviceable smart young and healthy LTs that won’t lose you a ball game at reasonable $$ don’t just come along every day. Everyone talks about the most important positions on a football team… backup LT is in the top 10.  Picture next year… the team is scrappy and competitive, 4 and 3 record, second place in the South. Morale is good. devastating run game that Let’s our marginal defense get plenty of rest. We play the Bucs and win, going to 5 and 3, but we lose Ickey to a high ankle sprain. Atl loses that week and are now at 5 and 3 as well. There is no Ickey and no BC because we let him go… and we go in to Atl the next week for a battle of first in the south. Week after that is the Jets…. Now they lose both by 10 and 3, respectively, and fall to 5 and 5 going in to their bye week. Atl is at 7 and 3. Out of typical Panthers desperation, they try to rush Ickey back in to the lineup with a saints game coming up…  Back to good old Panthers football, always playing catchup. Another season at .500 and the fans sadly rejoice in mediocrity, when playoffs were in reach. This team always overestimates its ability to pick up quality o line depth in the draft or FA and it always blows up in their faces. Like Chuba, I see him as being part of the core that Dan is trying to build. Work on his contract now and see if we can come out with something mutually beneficial. I’d consider 3 yrs at $25m to be very fair.
    • it would be great to have "double trouble" again, I even had a T- shirt for Williams and Stewart and the double trouble logo, was a great time to be Panthers fan. We shall see...
    • Sounds like a plan. Those are the teams we should be mimicking! lol
